Los Angeles: Steven Seagal, the Hollywood action star, has been enlisted by a controversial Arizona sheriff to give weapons and martial arts training to a civilian "posse" used to guard schools.
At a Phoenix school, Mr Seagal guided 48 volunteers on how to respond to a mass shooting, with children acting as stand-ins for frightened students.
The volunteers were shown how to conduct room-to-room searches.
Mr Seagal, 60, said: "I am here to try to teach the posse firearms and martial arts to try to help them learn how to respond quicker and help protect our children." Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who styles himself "America's toughest sheriff", has been dispatching the posse to guard schools in response to the gun rampage that killed 20 children and six adults at a school in Newtown, Connecticut.
The 3450-strong force of unpaid men and women has for years been used to target drunken drivers and illegal immigrants.
Some of the volunteers are trained to carry guns.
Mr Seagal has previously lived in the area and been a member of the posse.
About a dozen people protested against the event. Cynthia Wharton, a local, said: "No gun should ever be in a school."

I think it's the title of a Seagal movie Jim...
'Marked for Death' wouldn't have been a good thread title...

Thanks for the explanation Sean...
I was never a big Steven Seagal fan. (Under Siege was okay, but the best part of that movie was Tommy Lee Jones)
He always struck me as one of those action-hero movie types, (like Sylvester Stalone, another one I'm not crazy about) that took himself way to seriously...
When it comes to action-heroes, I prefer the ones that tend put some humor in their performances, and don't take themselves or their characters too seriously (like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Clint Eastwood)

Is there no beginning to his talents?

He has been a sheriff (or deputy) in NO (I think) for over 20 years. Seems like this is a lot like the Guardian Angels here in the NY area. Sure some have licenses to have guns and patrolling the school areas is not a bad thing.
"No gun should ever be in a school."
until some nut-job gets in with one (or more), then you will be praying for someone with a gun to come and stop him.

Unless that "someone with a gun" is a nut job as well, or has bad aim, or thinks casulaties in taking the "perp" out are inevitable, or ... Walter Mitty types are hardly something I'd be praying for.
