Two Remarkable Ladies...

Post by Lord Jim »

I had occasion to see two women interviewed last week who really made an impression on me....

Valerie Harper and Rita Moreno...(I caught Valerie on Piers Moron's show, and Rita on Morning Joe)

Valerie Harper, (Rhoda from The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and her spin off, and a number of other accomplishments since then) is 73 years old and has been battling brain cancer for four years, has been told at this point she may only have a few months to live.

But for her age she looks like a million bucks, and she brings to the table an incredible level of feistiness, tenacity, and zest for life that really makes her inspirational...

Rita Moreno is 81 years old, but you'd never know it...

What an incredibly energetic and "down to earth" lady with a broad and richly sweeping career, as an actress, and as a director, and as a part of Hollywood history...(she had an 8 year affair with Marlon Brando...she claims that the only picture he had on the wall in his house when he died was one of the two of them suckin' face with her butt nekkid...this one:

(I kinda doubt that...fetching as that photo is, Marlon still must have had at least one picture of Wally Cox on the wall)

Like her character in West Side Story, she literally got off the boat from Puerto Rico in New York as a child with her mother and made her way to Los Angeles to become " The Latin Liz Taylor"...

A great American success story...

After seeing that interview, Rita went to the top of my list (well okay, maybe # 2 after Lara Parker) of Still Living People I Would Most Like To Go Out For A Drink With...

Here's a longer version for anyone interested...She really was quite a pistol..

I'm sure Strop thinks West Side Story sucks..; it's just derivative of Romeo and Juliette... :P

That West Side Story sucks; it's just a derivative of Romeo and Juliet..

Ps. Jim, I corrected your spelling of Juliet, and tidied up your punctuation and grammar, no need to thank me.

That's a very valid point Strop; West Side Story sucks almost as bad as The Godfather...

I have always liked Valerie Harper. I grew up with Mary Tyler Moore and those shows.
Sad to see your childhood TV stars going away. I am sure she will go with dignity.

As far as West Side Story, that story/movie has been told before and will continue to be told many years after we are all gone. Chicks dig it and guys will go just to show that "we care". But we will never watch it when it comes to TV even if the GF or wife have it on.
