Is a New Heat Record Going to be Set?

Post by Joe Guy »

Here in California and much of the western U.S. we are currently experiencing a heat wave that is supposed to last at least 4 more days.

The record for the hottest weather in recorded history is 134 degrees in Death Valley, CA set July 10th 1913. One source I found said that it is expected to get up to 129 degrees there today.

Here is a place to monitor the weather in Death Valley.

How is it where you are?

It's just after noon here in RWC CA and it's only 89 degrees. It will probably be in the low 90's before the day is over.

Not too unusual, but if it lasts for more than 3 days it would be unusual.

I'm keeping as hydrated as possible and just being glad I'm not where it really is hot.

I bitched about the heat yesterday in "Home for Random Thoughts" thread.

Supposted to reach into the triple digits here in Antioch.

I hate the gawdammed heat!

As usual, when the rest of The West Fries, San Francisco has a very pleasant day...

74 degrees currently on the backyard thermometer...

It's supposed to get up to 80....

We're getting ready to hang out down at the beach for a couple of hours....

And then fire up the 'cue... :ok

We had some rain yesterday, people came out and pointed at the skies...

I detest heat. Last summer we positively baked and had severe drought. This week it will only be in the 70's with lows in the 60's. There has been ample rain; nice, long, rolling thunderstorms and I am loving every minute of it.

My sympathies to those who are cooking in the heat.

If I may be so bold as to respond on Jim's behalf:

Dear Dales
Go fry an egg on the pavement!

Yrs,
Jim

Now, I'm not going to get into this egg sucking argument...

I am not now, nor have I ever been, an egg sucker...

It's 95 degrees here now.

I think I'll go ask my irritating neighbor if he would please go sit in his car with the windows closed for a couple hours.

Joe- When I lived on the SF Peninsula growing up, I always thought of RWC as "too hot". How my life experiences have changed!

Mid-80's today, though the morning was overcast and really humid. Pretty nice now, though it will be warm (80's) most of next week. Fortunately, I have several vehicles with excellent air conditioning!

HHH (hazy, hot and humid) here on Long Island, although there wasn't much sun yesterday. Saturday was sunny in the low 90's but sunday was in the mid 80's.
Today is supposed to be low 80's and rain, but the humidity is still very high. So high I saw a fish swimming out of water.
