Just to keep y'all up to date....

My mum died on Friday night in a hospice in Basildon, Essex. We're in the West Country, having spent more than two weeks with and near her in hospital in London. Of course, she waited until we left town......... We'll be back with the family next week doing all the housekeeping stuff.

Ah.... that's about it

Sorry to hear that Meade, it's never easy.

Glad you are back in the old country to do what needs to be done.

Go well old son, I hope your faith supports you.

So sorry for your loss, Meade. It's never a good time to lose a parent. May her memory be a blessing for you.

My condolences Meade; it's never easy to lose the woman who gave you life. My own mom died in 2002 and I still feel a pang of melancholy now and again when I think of it. Hang in there and lean on your faith.

Thank you all. My mother was ah..... difficult at times. But now who do I write those 18 page letters (with photographs) to? Perhaps my granddaughter.

Just as there's no good place to put this, there's no good way to respond. Sorry, Meade.

... or, at least, a well respected one.

Meade, my sincerest and deepest condolences are extended to you and your family.

I always point to Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 at times like these. Just because I am an Atheist doesn't mean I don't, or can't, respond spiritually to bible verse when the words are so poignant and succinct. God need not be a part of the dying, or living, process.

My parents died before me. I hope to die before my child. And she before her children -- yet to be procreated. That is what we can hope for.

Peace.
