New York mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner has admitted sending explicit messages to a woman, two years after he left Congress over a similar affair.
An unnamed woman told website The Dirty she had an online relationship with the 48-year-old last year.
Mr Weiner, who has been leading polls of Democratic mayoral candidates, said he was "very sorry".
In 2011, he said his Twitter account was hacked, but then admitted sending lewd photos to young women.
Flanked by his wife, Huma Abedin, at a press conference on Tuesday in New York, he apologised while reading from a prepared statement.
He also said he would not drop out of the city's mayoral race, which will be decided by voters in November. Three of his rivals immediately called on him to stand aside.

New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner has admitted exchanging racy messages with three other women since resigning from Congress in 2011 over a similar scandal.
The married father of one, who on Tuesday acknowledged a raunchy online liaison with another woman last year, told reporters: "It's behind me".
Mr Weiner has so far defied calls to drop out of the election race.
A new poll suggests the 48-year-old has fallen behind his closest rival.
He now trails City Council Speaker Christine Quinn by 9%, according to a survey taken on Wednesday.
In addition, 55% of Democrats have an unfavourable view of him. Earlier polls taken before the revelations suggested Mr Weiner was neck and neck with Ms Quinn in the Democratic primary race.

Dinkins's term as mayor was only a failure in the revisionist history created by Giuliani in order to take credit for accomplishments for which Dinkins laid the foundation - decreases in the homicide and overall crime rates, hiring thousands of new police officers, rebuilding tens of thousands of vacant and dilapidated housing units, reducing the city's shelter population to its lowest level in the last 25 years, negotiating the cleanup of Times Square, etc., etc. All of which was done in the context of a recession that was hitting New York every bit as hard as the current one. No question he made some missteps, which he lacked the political finesse to spin as deftly as Giuliani later did for his own, but not everyone's memories are as short as Giuliani and his cheerleaders would have hoped.

Apparently, a while ago Weiner met with a group of Japanese-American citizens who told him they were interested in seeing all the latest news about the erection of the next NY mayor.

Anthony Weiner's sexting partner has stripped down for the public as she filmed a video for a major porn distributor.
Sydney Leathers poses provocatively in a five-minute clip of the video, and talks about her virtual relationship with the disgraced congressman. 'He would always compliment me on my breasts and my butt and my feet, and he would always tell me I was the perfect height to wear heels,' the 23-year-old said.

On a similar note....
The mistress of a Queensland MP who photographed his penis in a glass of red wine says she "enjoyed the people's money" when the pair went on official trips together.
Peter Dowling stepped aside as chair of the parliamentary ethics committee on Tuesday, saying he "can't and won't" defend his behaviour after being outed by his former lover, known only as Roslyn.
In a four-page letter to Queensland Speaker Fiona Simpson, the woman has alleged the pair used Mr Dowling's parliamentary annexe bedsit and Victoria Point electorate office for sex.
In an interview aired on Nine News on Tuesday, the woman said she had also enjoyed the perks of parliamentary travel.
"I enjoyed the people's money too when I stayed in the hotel rooms," she said.
"I enjoyed the perks of the Australian taxpayers' (sic) because I was in the hotel with him."
The divorced mother said the MP, who was "very charismatic and knew what to say", led her to believe "we would be able to have a life together in the future".
"It was very passionate. He made me feel it was real," she said.
Of the explicit text messages and pornographic photographs the woman said: "We didn't have any inhibitions, put it that way."
Mr Dowling took to Queensland's parliament floor on Tuesday morning to apologise to his wife of 27 years and two children for "the shame and embarrassment I have caused you" and to plead for their privacy.
"I don't want pity, I only ask that my family be left alone while this matter is considered by the Clerk," he said.
Mr Dowling also stepped down as a member of the Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Commission, which oversees the state's corruption watchdog.
The powerful ethics committee, which he chaired, deals with complaints about the conduct of parliamentarians.
The scandal was a distraction for the government on a day when it had hoped the focus would be on the Commission of Inquiry report on the Queensland Health payroll system, which was scathing of the processes used by the former Labor government.
Premier Campbell Newman told parliament he was only made aware of the allegations at 5.30pm on Monday and said he expected due process to be followed.
The clerk of the parliament is investigating if Mr Dowling failed to disclose all interests, and will consider if the matter needs to be referred to the ethics committee and the Crime and Misconduct Commission.
Mr Dowling accepted more than $20,000 in free flight upgrades, but did not have to declare those under parliamentary rules.

Was it pinot noir? Pinot gris? They should frame the picture and get it hung in a modern art gallery - probably received favourable reviews.

The press have been somewhat kind to his wife during this. She has held a series of increasingly important positions including deputy chief of staff to the US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton. Very attractive and I would guess a decade younger than he is.
Yours,
