That you may not have seen...
Last night we watched "Fun With Dick And Jane"....(The 2005 version with Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni)
It's absolutely hilarious....
I'm not a huge Carrey fan, (for me, a little Jim Carrey goes a long way; I liked The Mask, and Cable Guy, but the movie I liked him best in was as The Riddler in Batman Forever where he wasn't playing the main character)
I knew the plot line and vaguely recalled the original with George Segal and Jane Fonda, but I think this version is much funnier...
Like the original Out Of Towners, (with Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis; not the hideous remake with Steve Martin) there's a laugh in practically every scene...
The chemistry between Carrey and Leoni is first rate; and Tea Leoni is a fantastic comedienne with great comedic presence and timing...I don't understand why she doesn't get more work... (She was also excellent in Tower Heist, which has a similar kind of theme, but she didn't get to showcase her comedy talents the way she did in this flick)
And Alec Baldwin also does an excellent job playing an Über Asshole, but of course that's not really much of a dramatic stretch for him...
Speaking of Movies That Have Been Out For A While...

I saw that some years ago and detested it. Jim Carrey has had, imho, exactly one movie that was funny, Liar Liar.
But hey, chocolate and vanilla eh?

Refuse to watch anything with that Carrey/Stiller/Ferrel person in it on principle.

Kinda with Gob on that one. The odd thing about 'The Out of Towners" (original version) was that I thought it wonderful the first time I saw it - kind of amusing the second time and utterly awful the third time. Even the third time, LJ's right - it was better than the remake.
I guess sometimes there are movies that one thinks are terrific on first viewing but later are just a bit of a shame.

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Well, I couldn't disagree more...The odd thing about 'The Out of Towners" (original version) was that I thought it wonderful the first time I saw it - kind of amusing the second time and utterly awful the third time.
I have the flick on DVD and re-watch it probably every three or four months and every time I still get a laugh out of it...
The movie was made more than 40 years ago, (1970) but it still holds up remarkably well...

I recommend The Truman Show.Gob wrote:Refuse to watch anything with that Carrey/Stiller/Ferrel person in it on principle.
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.
