Le Gear

Post by Gob »

Former Friends star Matt LeBlanc is to be one of the new presenters of Top Gear when the motoring programme returns to BBC Two in May.

The US actor will be the show's first non-British host in its 39-year history.

"Matt's a lifelong fellow petrolhead and I'm thrilled he's joining Top Gear," said Chris Evans of his new on-screen colleague.

Additional Top Gear cast members will be confirmed shortly, the BBC said.

"As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I'm honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show's new chapter," said LeBlanc. "What a thrill!"

The 48-year-old is best known for his role as Joey Tribbiani in Friends and has more recently been seen, as himself, in BBC Two sitcom Episodes.
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

I have heard that while Jeremy Clarkson claimed the term "STIG" came from his school days and was a less-than-complimentary term applied to new students, "STIG" is actually a reverse acronym.
It actually stands for the Guy In The (racing) Suit — GITS; but since in Brit-slang a "git" is also a moderately derogatory term, it was then reversed to create the word "STIG".

Poor Matt. He's been largely out of work for years.

MATT'S POPULARITY...

Post by RayThom »

... is much like his name -- le blanc.

For a few bucks and a ticket in coach class I bet he'd show up at your child's birthday party.

Glory days can be a real bitch.

Since she's 40 this year, she might enjoy that.

My guess is he's still reaping residuals from Friends.

Motorsport guru and Formula 1 commentator Eddie Jordan, German racing driver Sabine Schmitz, motoring journalist Chris Harris and car reviewer Rory Reid will join Chris Evans.Friends actor Matt LeBlanc was announced last week, and trusty sidekick The Stig will also return.

Evans said: "We really do have a bit of everything for everyone.

"A fellow lifelong petrolhead from the other side of the pond in Matt; a fearless speed-demon in the irrepressible and effervescent Sabine; the encyclopedic, funny and wonderfully colourful character that is EJ; Chris, one of the world's top no-nonsense car reviewers; and Rory, who simply blew me away in his audition and fully deserves his place on the team."

Something for everyone, all right.  A black guy, a woman, a comedian, an American, a couple of people who seem to know about cars — and of course, the Stig.  I guess they couldn't find an Asian and/or a handicapped presenter... yet.
All that remains is for one of them to out themselves as the "queer eye for the straight guy" and they should be good to go.

I'll give it a try but if it's anything like as forced and awkward as the US and Australian versions were, it won't be worth it
