Rock guitarist Gary Moore dies
The renowned rock guitarist Gary Moore has died in a hotel room in Spain.
Moore, 58, originally from Belfast, was a former member of the legendary Irish group Thin Lizzy.
Adam Parsons, manager of the current Thin Lizzy line-up, told the BBC he had died early on Sunday.
Moore was originally drafted into Thin Lizzy by its late frontman Phil Lynott. He later gained acclaim for his solo work and was a former member of the Irish group Skid Row.
The Northern Ireland guitarist was only 16 when he moved from Belfast to Dublin in 1969, to join Skid Row, which featured Lynott as lead vocalist.
He was later brought into Thin Lizzy by Lynott to replace the departing Eric Bell, another guitarist from Northern Ireland.
Mr Bell told the BBC on Sunday he was still "in shock" at Moore's death.
"I still can't believe it," he said.
"He was so robust, he wasn't a rock casualty, he was a healthy guy.

I've got a secret...
I didn't even know that Garry Moore could play the guitar...

To tell the truth, that came as a complete surprise...

Re: Blues no Moore
It's part sustain but mostly controlled feedback Strop. He's using a Treble Booster to do it. If memory serves me correct he usually used a Colorsound Booster.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
Re: Blues no Moore
Thanks Sean. It's pretty fucking impressive whatever technique/effect used.

Tube amp?
Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Re: Blues no Moore
Indeed it is Dales. That only has an impact on the tone though not on the sustain or feedback (of the controlled variety that is...). It's all from his pick-ups, the wood of the guitar and his effects unit.
Tube amps are vastly overrated in the effect they have on a guitarist's sound.

Ah! I forgot we had an expert...
Yep, LPs will sustain a note for as long as you want them to. It doesn't matter what you plug them into. They're just that good!

Re: Blues no Moore
It's getting the buggers to stop sustaining is the problem I find. 20 bars in and the first fucking chord you played is still howling over the top of it.

Iconic US guitar maker Gibson is facing a criminal probe over claims it broke environmental laws while importing wood. So is music the next threat to the world's forests?
On 28 August federal agents raided Gibson's Nashville and Memphis premises, seizing shipments of Indian rosewood and leaving the venerable guitar maker more than a little off-key.
The agents brandished search warrants issued amid suspicions that Gibson had violated the terms of the Lacey Act, an environmental law that requires imports to the US to comply with laws in the country of origin as well.
Gibson is now a conservative cause celebre, with anti-Washington activists in Tennessee and beyond hailing the firm's predicament as an example of the "unacceptable over-reach" of the US federal government.
Facing a criminal investigation, Gibson boss Henry Juszkiewicz has formed an uneasy alliance with the Tea Party, even appearing on stage in Nashville at a sun-drenched weekend rally called to support his firm.

The only Gibson made guitar I own at the moment is a 335 which is made purely from dessicated whale and Brazilian rosewood. The Amazonian railforests are okay right?

That the one with the ivory scratch guard on it?

Re: Blues no Moore
No, the scratchplate is made from Black Rhino horn. The fret inlays are ivory and the machine heads are crafted from Siberian Tiger teeth.
BTW, did you know that you can make nine guitar picks from the beak of a single Califonia Condor? Very useful bird.

And when seasoned properly, very tasty as well...
The taste is sort of like a cross between American Bald Eagle and Spotted Owl....
