I watch it if FOX shows it as a rerun and there's not much else worth watching.
It has gotten somewhat better but initially the bar was set so low anything is an improvement. If it doesn't get picked up for another season I'm not going to miss it.
“In a world whose absurdity appears to be so impenetrable, we simply must reach a greater degree of understanding among us, a greater sincerity.”
It apparently has got picked up. Most as Sci fi has rocky beginnings as it’s either too much like or not enough like whatever sci fi series came before.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
We wound up eventually watching the whole season, and some of the episodes did have some interesting plot themes.
But the progam really suffers from the distracting and annoying gratuitous junior high school humor that becomes even more annoying and distracting when there's a decent story line with some real drama and suspense...
The show would be greatly improved if the characters would just stop calling each other "a dick", (yeah, that was hilarious the first time, and it just gets funnier and funnier ) and if they lost that ridiculous green blob...
I watched the whole season. It's a TNG ripoff and was always intended to be a TNG ripoff. I found the plots for the most part decent but the forced humor, as I said before, too forced. One episode was left unaired and will be shown next season, as the episode they showed worked better as a season finale once it was determined it was only a half-season order.
Interesting little trivia bit- Jonathan Frakes- best known as Commander Riker from Star Trek The Next Generation, directed an episode of The Orville, and then directed an episode of Discovery right after. That episode of Discovery was the second half premier shown Sunday, and was IMO the best episode so far. Of course, any time Star Trek visits the Mirror universe, it's been good...
Death is Nature's way of telling you to slow down.
Datsun--I was never a TNG (or later Star Trek shows, except for Voyager) watcher; what is the mirror universe? I was thinking a parallel universe, but somehow I think that's too easy.

The Mirror Universe is a parallel universe. It was introduced in the original series "Mirror, Mirror", where instead of the Federation, humans are bloodthirsty and evil and formed the Terran Empire. TNG never went to the Mirror Universe but DS9 and Enterprise did. Enterprise's 2-part episode "In a Mirror, Darkly" was the best episode of the series.
And yes, "Mirror" Spock had a goatee in "Mirror Mirror".

OK, that makes sense, the parallel universe from the original series.
FWIW, I always thought it was counter to the opposite universe that Spock was logical--it could have been interesting if he avoided logic and acted solely on impulse. Ditto, the Federation became bloodthirsty conquerors, but the Halkans were still peace loving pacifists willing to die for their ideals. But then, the writers can do what they want, I guess.
