Lord Jim wrote: In episode 2 when Hardy first questions the father, and dad says he can't remember the name of the "mate" he was out with two nights before, (the night his son was murdered) the very next question any copper would ask would be, "were you having an affair?" ...

I'm not a DI, (and I don't even play one on TV) but I've seen enough of them to know that when a married man gives you a wildly implausible explanation for his whereabouts at the time of a murder, the next logical question to be asked is whether or or not he was with a woman not his wife....

It took Hardy three interviews and an arrest for Obstruction Of Justice before he got around to asking that question...
I disagree Jim. If he wasn't having an affair and was instead involved in the murder, why offer him an alibi on a plate?
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

The sister, Danny's friend, and the weird phone guy have way more to say, I think.

You might want to watch the end of that episode again to be sure about what was burning . . .

Watching episodes six and seven tonight. It's very good but there are tons of threads and I'm not sure how they are all going to pull together - although I have my pet theories.

Still watching Jim?

Absolutely Guin...

After episode seven, you'll see that the evidence really seems to be ironclad in one direction, but I still have my doubts...

I still believe that the formula where a character who seems peripheral to the plot winds up being the killer will hold true here...someone who doesn't seem at all sinister, and doesn't play a big role....

Over the course of watching the show I've considered a number of them, (the father's girlfriend who runs the hotel, the local reporter, etc.)

Now I'm focusing on DS Miller's husband Joe as a strong possibility....

I didn't get a chance to see last night's final episode yet --- so no spoilers please. Hopefully it will be on-demand tonight!

(FWIW, I think things were even more scrambled at the end of 7, than before - don't think its the girlfriend or the reporter, but the priest perhaps 8-) )

I haven't seen it yet either Guin...

It should be in On Demand today...

BBC America is one of the Good Guys for On Demand...available the next day and you can FF the commercials. (Unlike those no-good fascist SOBs at FOX that won't even reduce the number of commercials you have to sit through a few days after the airing, like some of the stations do)

So hopefully we'll watch it this evening....

BBC iPlayer over here usually has programmes up within an hour or so of broadcast. The only problem is mostly shows are only available for a week after broadcast. Occasionally they'll it a full run on when a series is in its last week

Obviously because we pay the license fee for it we have no adverts too.

Not yet on demand, but I bought the episode from Amazon prime. Wow - It was perfect!

Looking forward to a second season, but not so much the FOX version (which is guaranteed to have lots of guns, and scantily clad folks).

Interesting, the town really reminds me of where I live. That constant influence and pull of the sea is just so powerful. They captured it beautifully in the show.

Very intense finale...

Most excellent series...
the FOX version (which is guaranteed to have lots of guns, and scantily clad folks).
And tons of non-fast forwadable commercials, no doubt...

I'm having some trouble understanding how they're going to do a second season with this though...

I can see how they could do a whole Detective Hardy series, (I was frankly pleasantly surprised by David Tennant's masterful performance; he's my second favorite Dr. Who after Tom Baker, but I had no idea he had this kind of dramatic range...I understand he won the Best Actor Award for the role in the British equivalent of the Emmys) and the chemistry between him and Olivia Colman really works well, but how many grizzly murders and dark secrets can there be in one tiny town?

Like Midsomer Murders, shouldn't they find another tiny town?

The second season of Broadchurch premiered last night here on BBC America...

We're going to watch episode 1 this evening sans commercials...

I hope it holds up to the first season, but we'll see...

Right look away now Jim ...

There was more negativity about the second series than anyone expected. But I really enjoyed it. I didn't wait for week by week episodes I recorded them all and binged it over a couple of days.

The delightful bickering between the lead characters is still there, the anguish of the community is still raw, and it still looks beautiful.

No spoilers though.

My thoughts exactly Daisy, a fair bit of "tall poppy syndrome" from the critics.

I'm not going to give any spoilers on the first episode, (because I believe there are a couple of other Americans around here who are fans and may not have seen it yet)

But I agree that the fundamental chemistry between the main characters remains intact...

And the other thing I'll say (that I don't really think gives anything away) is that I was surprised by the direction they seem to have taken with the second season...

I did not see that coming....

And between that and the new story element that's been added, it's early but I think this season shows promise...

(Though I do have some questions about the new story line and how it fits plausibly with the original season that I'd like to explore once everyone here who is following the series has had a chance to see the first episode...)

And another bit of good news...

For those Ripper Street fans here in The States, Season 3 (even though it's now owned by Amazon) is going to be carried on BBC America starting in April:
