You know very well that a homosexual character in a fairy tale will be discussed and argued for and against on TV, radio and print.Scooter wrote:It would be no more "conspicuous" than any heterosexual couple in the same situation. So there is no problem, is there?Joe Guy wrote:Nothing, unless they decide to make a conspicuous issue of it.Scooter wrote:And if it were a prince and a prince, or a princess and a princess, that would change what, exactly?
It's adults that want homosexuals to be in children's fairy tales. Children just want a good story in which the good guy and/or gal wins in the end. Adults are complaining there is no gay representation in children's stories. In my opinion, that's not where children should be learning about different types of sexual relationships.Scooter wrote:Portraying a same-sex relationship doesn't make an "issue" of it any more than portraying a heterosexual relationship, unless someone has a problem with same-sex relationships.
Let them grow up and learn about sex later when they become curious.
All I am talking about is what is age appropriate. Introducing a black character doesn't bring the subject of sex into a fairy tale. Having same-sex relationships raises questions and although those questions will eventually come and should be answered, a child's fairy tale isn't the place to introduce anything about sexual behavior.Scooter wrote:The overwhelming majority of relationships are not interracial. If interracial relationships did not "appeal to the masses", as they certainly did not in the not too distant past, and probably still do not in some areas, is that in and of itself reason to avoid such portrayals?
If I'm understanding your point correctly, you believe that a gay princess should be included in a story like frozen because gay people are under-represented in children's stories and everywhere else as far as you're concerned.
Whether you want it to or not, in the current world we live in, when you introduce a gay partner or enter into a same-sex marriage, you are making a statement. You're admitting to being homosexual and saying that you are comfortable with it. I think that's great and most people agree that it's good and homosexuals don't need to be ashamed of who they are.
But that doesn't mean you need to have product placement in all fairy tales and march against Disney and demand a gay princess in a movie. Those stories will be written. A lot of opposition to the "gay movement" is based on the demanding manner in which many in the homosexual community want things done.
I support the gay community and equal rights for everyone but I don't agree with all of the methods and strategies used to get the message out.
