Another Good Show On BBC America...

Post by Lord Jim »

When we first got BBC America I was disappointed...

I was hoping they would show a lot of britcoms from the 80's and 90's, while instead what we got were a lot of "Top Gear" reruns... :P

But in the past couple of years, they've produced some quality programming...

Ripper Street, Copper, Broadchurch (and of course Dr. Who)...

And another one...

"Luther"...

After we were lying in bed early this morning watching the latest episode of Broadchurch (I now think that following my theory about an unlikely character being the killer, that nerdy local reporter looks good for it....)

I thought the promos for Luther looked good, so maybe we should check out an episode...

We wound up spending 3 and a half hours watching all four Season 2 episodes...

Really good show...

Are they going to show Series 3 on BBC America?

That starts tomorrow Daze, that's why they've got this promo going on; I'm looking forward to it...

The way he got the scumbag's body into the trunk of the dirty former cop was priceless...(also the way he got the SWAT team to take out the loony in the truck at the end of episode 4 :ok )

The six episodes of Series I are also available in Xfinity on Demand; we're going to watch the first four episodes (since the primary story arcs seem to run over two episodes) later this morning, and then the last two this evening...(I'd be happy to watch all six back-to-back, but we have a barbecue we're obligated to go to... 8-) )

We just bought the three series box set of this. Saw one episode on TV, had to get the rest.

Luther is fantastic . . . for many reasons beyond the fact that Idris Elba makes me drool like Pavlov's dog. ;)

Unfortunately there won't be a season four, but they're looking at possibly doing a feature film:
The show’s star Idris Elba had previously hinted that the show – which recently ended its third series on BBC One – could be back for another run depending on the demand from fans.

However the writer has now pretty much put paid to those rumours by telling fans at the Edinburgh Television Festival: ‘The show’s finished. Idris, as he should be, he’s gone on to be a big movie star.’

Neil Cross who also revealed he was working on a new series for US network NBC – went on to confirm the character would return on the big screen, saying ‘I think there will be a Luther movie that’s the plan.’

Elba recently offered his own views on Luther’s future, saying: ‘My personal ambition is to see this turn into a film. But I’m very loyal to the audience.

‘If the audience demands another season, or some variable on that, then it should happen I think.’

The actor was seen most recently in the sci-fi blockbuster Pacific Rim and also stars as Nelson Mandela in the forthcoming Long Walk To Freedom.

Cross said of the latter: ‘I watched the trailer a couple of weeks ago and it’s astonishing.

‘Idris is a great actor – because he’s so beautiful and charismatic and because he commands the screen so singularly, people forget he’s a f**king astonishing actor,’ he added.

‘I can’t think of a more high profile, risky role to play than Mandela. He’s owned it.’

Long Walk To Freedom will be released in the UK in early 2014.

I don't have TV so don't know if it's available on BBC America - but you should check out The Fall, LJ. It's another great crime series with Gillian Anderson as the lead detective.

Looks good;( I haven't seen her in ages...)

I see it gets an 8.1 on IMDB, but it's only available on netflix...

I've avoided getting netflix because I've felt like we have enough TV around here, but now that I've ordered a conversion box that will work for both Amazon Prime and Netflix, (I had to break down and get Amazon Prime because I really want to see the first four seasons of Justified...) I might as well go ahead and throw in another 10 bucks a month and get netflix too; I know they've got a lot of good programming...

Has anyone here watched Derek? If so did you like it?

I watched a couple episodes last night and thought it was very good.

The show probably appeals to women more than men. I was surprised to see Ricky Gervais playing Derek. He's good at the part.

I don't know if I'll watch all of the episodes but so far it has kept my interest. In the meantime I'm trying to find some movies or tv shows with more action.

I went a long time without watching much tv so a lot of old stuff is new to me. I only recently discovered Family Guy and it's now one of my favorite shows.

I've added it to my Netflix queue - thanks, Joe. It should be a nice counter-balance to my current binge, which is the 5 seasons of The Sopranos that I never saw. (No spoilers!)

The Fall... Oh God. I watched this series when Cookie was in Indonesia, I spent twenty minutes every night checking and rechecking I'd locked the doors and windows for weeks

I will second that recommendation.

Also, Happy Valley http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3428912/ was another riveting six-episode from BBC. Might have to get a Yorkshire local to translate some of the dialogue, though.

I didn't think so. She makes a lousy blonde.

Does this mean you're finally going to watch House of Cards(US). Really, its criminal that you haven't. You will adore it.

Yes, we just started season 2...

We've also been catching up on some older HBO series' that we didn't see when they were in production...(A lot full HBO series are now available on Xfinity)

Deadwood was absolutely fantastic; we're now in Season 3 of Boardwalk Empire
