BORAT actor Sacha Baron Cohen is set to play Freddie Mercury in an upcoming film about the iconic British rock band Queen.
The movie will be the first time the surviving members of Queen - Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon - have agreed to license songs and music publishing rights for a movie about the band.
The three formed Queen Films to take part in the production of the movie.
The untitled film will feature hits global such as Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions, though it has not been revealed if Baron Cohen would sing in the film or if Mercury's original vocals would be used.
"Freddie Mercury was an awe-inspiring performer, so with Sacha in the starring role coupled with Peter [Morgan's] screenplay and the support of Queen, we have the perfect combination to tell the real story behind their success," the project's financier GK Films told Deadline.

Queen Borat?
Queen Borat?

Re: Queen Borat?
I reckon he is perfect for the role. No wonder the rest of Queen agreed to this being done.

Bah!

Re: Queen Borat?
I have to agree, with the right haircut, and a "cock-duster" moustache, he would be the spit of Fred.
Mercury was born in the British protectorate of Zanzibar, East Africa. His parents, Bomi and Jer Bulsara, were Parsis from the Gujarat region of the then province of Bombay Presidency in British India
Baron Cohen was born in Hammersmith, West London, England. His mother, Daniella (née Weiser), was born in Israel, while his father, Gerald, was originally from Pontypridd, Wales, Great Britain.

Re: Queen Borat?
I didn't recognize him him either, but a friend of mine pointed him out to me as Signor Adolfo, AKA Davy Collins, the phony barber. Not bad in that role, and he does have that chameleon ability, so he may do Freddie justice.

Queen's Greatest Hits remains the best-selling album of all time in the UK, according to a newly-compiled chart.
The 1981 collection, which includes Bohemian Rhapsody, Don't Stop Me Now and Another One Bites The Dust, has sold a total of 5.8 million copies.
Its nearest rival is The Beatles' Sgt Pepper album, with sales of 5 million, followed by Abba Gold, on 4.9 million.
But the chart contains a few surprises: The Rolling Stones and Elvis are entirely absent.
Leona Lewis, meanwhile, is revealed as the UK's 20th best-selling album, for her 2007 debut, Spirit.
Keane, The Kings Of Leon and Travis also rub shoulders with some of the more expected big-sellers from Madonna and Fleetwood Mac.UK's top 10 best-selling albums
