Small town boy, 30 years on

Post by Gob »

I must admit that this brought a tear to my eye.

Although it was a "coming of age" anthem for many gay and lesbian young people of my age, it also spoke to those of us who are "straight" but felt themselves different or out of step with the small town mentality of the places we lived. Jimmy still sings sweetly and looks great for his age.

Original version.

You leave in the morning
With everything you own in a little black case
Alone on the platform
The wind and the rain

On a sad and lonely face
Mother will never understand
Why you had to leave
For the love that you need

Will never be found at home
Pushed around and kicked around
Always a lonely boy
You were the one

That they'd talk about around town
As they put you down
And as hard as they would try
They'd hurt to make you cry

But you'd never cry to them
Just to your soul
No you'd never cry to them
Just to your soul
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
