Just saw the 8-episode True Detective from HBO. That was an intense and riveting mini-series. It has recently been nominated in the Emmy Best Drama category. If you don't get HBO, I think the only way to see it is on DVD/Blue Ray (doubt they allow it to stream through Netflix or Amazon Prime).

The first episode is being shown here tonight. Cookie and I have already watched it the series though, it's brilliant and disturbing and beautifully filmed.

It's on Amazon, but pay to view only. I'll wait for Prime, as I'm still catching up on all the old HBO shows.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Season Three of True Detective is back to being excellent TV. Mahershala Ali energizes this season (just like he was the most interesting character as Remy in House of Cards), and leads a strong cast and good plot. About half-way through now. If you have HBO you should check it out.
