I'm probably two years late and more than a dollar short but Netflix is turning out to be a goldmine (for Margaretta and me). Instead of suffering rotten current TV drama series, there are those such as The Killing just waiting to be discovered - and with no commercials.
I haven't seen any USian police series that approached the standards of those found on British TV until this one popped up on the radar. But of course, it was heavily influenced by Danes which explains the setting in Seattle... once in a while I scream, "Turn on the bloody lights!" but they don't.

The Killing is an American crime drama television series that premiered on April 3, 2011, on AMC, based on the Danish television series Forbrydelsen (literally The Crime). The American version was developed by Veena Sud and produced by Fox Television Studios and Fuse Entertainment. Set in Seattle, Washington, the series follows the various murder investigations by homicide detectives Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman).
