We haven't watched the first episode yet; we'll probably watch it tomorrow when the commercial content for it in On Demand will drop...

I know that the "evil small town" theme is one that's been done many times going back to Bad Day At Black Rock in the 1950s, but from the promos and the reviews it looks like this could be a well crafted version...It's already got an 8.6 rating on IMDB...

For anyone who may not be familiar with it, here's a plot summary and a trailer:

A Secret Service agent goes to Wayward Pines, Idaho, in search of two federal agents who have gone missing in the bucolic town. He soon learns that he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.

I watched it last night and found it intriguing - right up until I fell asleep part way through, anyway.

I'm pretty sure that was the function of a middle-aged gal after a long day and nothing more. I'm planning to give it another shot a bit earlier in the evening tonight.


eta: Just watched it again; it's great. I'm glad to know it's a short run series, so there won't be any doubt of finding out the answers to all the mysteries (maybe?) within a finite time period. Great production values, great acting, great cast!

I've gotten hooked on this one...

It's going in some really unexpected directions...

I've been watching it too, and I'd be a lot happier if I knew it was going to end by the end of the summer; but things like this have a problem of coming back year after year and changing (like Revolution or Under the Dome). But the thing that scares me the most is the involvement of M. Knight Shyamalan; IMHO he went off the deep end after the Sixth Sense and has basically ruined most of what he has touched since then--they start out well, but then take silly turns which kind of ruins them (at least for me).

So far it is OK; but I'm scared (and the revelations of last night make me nervous as well as I think it can go either way).

I wasn't a big fan of Unbreakable, but it was high art compared to some of his later mov

I love it and I've fallen in love with Matt Dillon all over again - some of his best work in a long time. (Loved him in high school when he starred in The Outsiders.)

I don't believe I have ever felt more ripped off by a series finale than this one...

(And that includes the series finale of the A&E series The Glades, where the protagonist gets machine gunned on his wedding day, and you don't know if he lives or dies...)

Even when it vectored from "evil little town" into complete science fiction, I was still drawn in by the quality of the writing and the actors...

The finale made the show a cynical joke on the audience...

I thought it was a decent ending, very chilling. A good series, well acted and written.

I didn't particularly like the ending; more a setup for a season 2 than any real sort of ending (which is what I recall was promised at the outset).

I thought there would likely be a season 2 as well, after I saw the way the plot was expanding, (and that would have been fine with me.)

But to kill off the entire adult cast so they could set up a second season with the town run and populated entirely by those snotty teenagers?

It would probably be the best sequel since Stargate Universe....

I watched a couple of eps, but couldn't really get into it.

Jim--my guess is they didn't kill them, they just put them in suspended animation in case they needed them later. Not that the show gave any real indication of that, other than showing the freezing tubes and saying this is what's left of humanity. Either way, the next season would have been an interminable cat and mouse game of some of the kids trying to defrost some of the frozen persons (either those that led the revolt or, if they were killed, the new people who hadn't been unfrozen yet).

If it stays canceled, th eonly thing I on't have is the pleasure of missing season 2.

It was my understanding it was always going to be a one-off show, no next season was ever contemplated. Which is why I liked the ending; the whole show was very much like a sci-fi short story.
