....is retiring from TV.

Imus is going to texas. no more TV, still on the radio I guess.

I started watching almost every morning since last fall. I m up at 5 everyday anyway. his show really made an unpleasant winter more pleasant. it s nice to start the day with a laugh or two. he even grew on holly, after a while....

oh well, he s not getting any younger or healthier and I wish him well as he enjoys his time with his family and the kids he sponsors at his ranch. good job.

still a little ticked that he called gwen ifil the cleaning lady, but that s ok because her interviewing and reporting have really gone downhill since Obama was running for president the first time.....

see you at the rodeo....

I listen to Imus on the radio on the drive in to work every day. Have been for many years dating back to when he was drinking and drugging. Only time I didn't listen to him was when he got fired from WFAN for insulting the Rutgers womens basketball team.

The Imus Ranch is in New Mexico. Does this mean he is ending his radio show? He never got back on a radio station I listen to after he got booted, and I have too many things to do in the morning to watch him on tv so I've lost track of him. He got me listening to Delbert McClinton which I count in his good deed column.

may be imus wou..... Maybe Imus would breathe better if he moved to Death Valley. It would suit him well since he looks like he's been dead for a few years...

From what I have heard, he is moving to his ranch that he recently bought in Texas. His son Wyatt is supposedly a good calf roper and wants to do that more often (in addition to attending college). The radio show will continue but Imus will be broadcasting from Texas with the rest of the crew still here in NY. The TV people didn't want to have to broadcast from NY and Texas.

Don't know about the randh camp for kids with cancer in New Mexico.

I used to have Imus In The Morning on every morning before he got tossed off of MSNBC over that Rutgers thing...

(I guess I could have had him on on The Fox Business Channel, but since he got the boot, I've come to prefer Morning Joe...)

I loved his savage humor, ("Pat Buchanan is offended that anyone would call him anti-semitic; In fact he lost a relative at Auschwitz...he had an uncle who fell out of a guard tower"...)

From the humor standpoint I was particularly fond of Bernie, and the guy he had on the show who was great at doing impersonations...("The late Richard Nixon" and "This is Bill From Chappaqua...you'd be amazed at what a smile can do for a woman...")

And he got a lot of "A list" political types on his show, and he pulled no punches in interviewing them and he did his homework before interviewing them...(he actually read the books written by most of the people he interviewed before he interviewed them...)

The one thing I found really tedious about his show, was how he would sometimes abandon all of the things that made it interesting or provocative or amusing (including the musical numbers) to let his wife use the program as an infomercial platform for her causes, beliefs and business products...(or have one of her acolytes interviewed for the purpose...)

Not just her cockeyed theories about vegetarianism and "green" cleaning fluids; Dierdre Imus was one of the strongest promoters of the "vaccine/autism connection..."

And she used her husband's radio platform, (at one time 12 million listeners a day nationwide; second only to Rush Limbaugh) to spread this destructive quackery...

And Don let her do it...

well jim, if you had had the crappy free clinic immunizations given to your children you might feel differently.....

I know it s a matter of national security but sheesh, have you checked out what was in that stuff?

can t be healthy.

....but I like Imus' independence. the Christie post was my tribute. I watch morning joe during the commercials... mika is kinda cute. she is wrong about everything, but cute. I remember when I lived in MA and she was on 'CBS up to the minute', a little coffee, a little bubbly randy mika, and off to the steel shop at 4 am....

Thanks for the update on the Imus Ranch, wes. Can't believe with all the donation to pay for the ranch, then all the money to run it, and now it is going to be sold off.

And I second all of LJ's comments regarding the funny guys on that show, as well as the annoying spousal unit who used his fame to push her stuff, including the idiotic anti-vaccine shinola. Didn't realize Imus was 75. I guess he'll keep going until he can't, but given his past lifestyles he is defying nature.

I don t gamble anymore, but I was quite good at it.

if I still gambled I would put every dime I had on the table to bet against either one of you being confident enough in vaccine safety to take a nice drink of thimerosol(sp)

hell half of you are probably afraid to eat tuna because of mercury, but don t think twice about other peoples kids taking thimerosol. don t worry tho, the family doctor you go to has higher quality vaccines than the free clinics....

Imus is a shameful ass.

And I eat tuna (preferably sushi quality and raw), but switched to daily disposable contact lenses because the thimerosol in the cleaners and disinfectants necessary for the weekly or monthly or yearly lenses was bothering my eyes. So there.

well jim, if you had had the crappy free clinic immunizations given to your children you might feel differently.....
Wes--are you honestly saying that those receiving vaccines in free clinics had different vaccines given to them than those who went to private physicians; that somehow vaccine companies prepared substandard vaccines for them? Do you have any proof of that?

I just can't see a company opening a second production line for the clinics; it would cost them far more than to provide their primary vaccines to the clinics at a discount (or even for free). I'm pretty sure everyone got the same vaccines.

As for
if I still gambled I would put every dime I had on the table to bet against either one of you being confident enough in vaccine safety to take a nice drink of thimerosol(sp)
I've had many silver amalgam filling in my teeth, some of which are still there--and they contained mercury. Sure, heavy metals can be toxic and should be avoided, and most vaccines have been reformulated without the mercury, but I do trust the scientific studies that show there is no real risk. Might there be a very slight risk? Certainly, but far less than the risk of contracting serious diseases such as diphtheria or whooping cough or tetanus, or spreading it through the community. now I'm all about allowing choice on vaccines against less serious diseases (like chicken pox) or diseases unlikely to be encountered as children (like HPV or hepatitis C), but I still had my daughters inoculated with Gardasil against HPV.

Every medical treatment, including vaccines, is not entirely without risk, but sometimes public health concerns can tip the scales; I recall several older teens in my neighborhood who contacted polio before the vaccine and two were in wheel chairs (I even recall the public pool being closed for polio contamination when I was very young). I'm sure they and those in iron lungs would have gladly accepted the risk of the vaccine, which pretty much eradicated the ravages of that terrible disease.

yes RR , I am saying that the vaccines were and probably still are different.

there is also a special vaccine court. check out the court records, oh wait, you can t , they are sealed.

as I said, it s a matter of national security. can you imagine what would happen if inner city, Appalachian and other parents from the wrong side of the tracks in every town in America found out that their kids were stunted by unsafe vaccines?

there would be revolution

Certainly there is a body that provides compensation to persons injured by vaccines and that compensation is provided by the government. If the records are sealed (and they may be, I don't know), it still doesn't mean the poor are being given "bad" vaccines. And I just can't see how opening a second vaccine production line would make sense to any manufacturer; the biggest costs are in setting up the line, not the actual production of each dose; it would be far cheaper to just provide the same vaccine to all.

Now I don't doubt that the government and public health service have done some horrible things (like the Tuskegee syphilis experiments), but these appear to be few and far between and generally come to light. As it would be pretty easy for any interested person to get vaccines from a private doctor and a clinic and analyze both, I would think any real evidence would have been brought to the attention of the public by now, and I haven't seen any such evidence.

wesw, are you sure you don't live in Vermont?

I don't know why you think the vaccine compensation program is all super-secret - I found all kinds of public information about the settlements, etc. readily available online with just a quick Google search.

I'd post the links for you here, but I think you need to learn to do your own simple internet research before posting such tin foil hat conspiracy nonsense.
