Irish musician Sinead O'Connor has declared "music is dead" amid an expletive-laden assault on Kim Kardashian's appearance on the cover of respected music magazine, Rolling Stone.

Unimpressed by the socialite's appearance, O'Connor posted a photo of the cover on her Facebook page, asking followers, "What is this c*** doing on the cover of Rolling Stone?" "Music has officially died.Who knew it would be Rolling Stone that murdered it?" O'Connor's Facebook rant.

Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh can no longer be expected to take all the blame. Bob Dylan must be f***ing horrified," she said.

The singer then encouraged her followers to boycott the magazine by adding the hashtag: '#‎BoycottRollingStone‬. The backlash has sparked angry comments on Rolling Stone's Facebook page, questioning the magazine's move. "Remember the days when you had to have talent to make the cover of Rolling Stone? #TakeMeBack," wrote one disgruntled reader.'[Kardashian] has nothing to do with the music business! Bad move RS," added another.

No stranger to a good old-fashioned social media stoush, O'Connor has also previously hit out against Miley Cyrus's behaviour in 2013 and 2014. O'Connor wrote an open letter after Cyrus after she told Rolling Stone that her Wrecking Ball video had been inspired by O'Connor's music video for Nothing Compares 2 U. The Cyrus video starts with a tearful close-up of the singer, but unlike O'Connor's video, it moves on to show Cyrus in underwear and, eventually, naked.

"I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe ... that it is in any way 'cool' to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos. "The music business doesn't give a s*** about you, or any of us. "They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think its what YOU wanted . . . and when you end up in rehab as a result of being prostituted, 'they' will be sunning themselves on their yachts in Antigua," she warned.

I think Rolling Stone's recent faux gang rape article pretty much summed up the quality of 'journalism' it now produces.
