If “Dismaland” sounds like a nightmare version of Disneyland to you, then you’d be right.
The “bemusement” park is the work of notorious street artist Banksy, and the 2.5 acre site opens today in the UK. The secret project, which was unveiled Thursday and is located in the abandoned Tropicana swimming resort in Weston-super-Mare, features theme-park attractions with a dark twist, along with work by Banksy and 50 other artists from around the world. “Dismaland” admission costs £3 and will run only for 5 weeks.
The official brochure describes it in the following manner:
“Are you looking for an alternative to the soulless sugar-coated banality of the average family day out? Or just somewhere cheaper. Then this is the place for you—a chaotic new world where you can escape from mindless escapism. Instead of a burger stall, we have a museum. In place of a gift shop we have a library, well, we have a gift shop as well…This event contains adult themes, distressing imagery, extended use of strobe lighting, smoke effects and swearing. The following items are strictly prohibited: knives, spraycans, illegal drugs, and lawyers from the Walt Disney corporation.”

They could have saved a lot of effort by just putting a fence across from Liverpool to Bristol and charging admission to go west

I said "looks great" - not "sounds great". I might boycott the swearing parts - especially if it is simply gratuitous vulgarity demonstrating how grown-up the artist(s) are. Poo flinging, you know.

I love that Cinderella based display and its commentary on the press.

Just remember the exit is through the gift shop.

Isn't it always?
Hey
Bicycle Bill, there's a homeless guy who comes to some of my groups AA meetings and calls himself "Bicycle Bob". Any relation?

To be honest, it doesn't look like "fun for the whole family"...

Not even the Donald Trump "shoot the refugees in a boat" exhibit?

Not that I know of. However there, but for the grace of God and my own AA group twenty-odd years ago, might have been myself by now.

There are more alkies in these forums than I realized. It's one story at a time... 'time' being the operative term. I'm always amazed to hear about all the different roads we've traveled to get there.
Some souls seek the light in groups, some seek it from within. Regardless, sobriety is easy -- it's the maintenance that requires the hard work.
Eye on the prize.

I think you mean "confessed" alkies - or perhaps, honest ones? I'd guess there are even more who've not admitted it (altho' sometimes I come close to doing so)
