OJ Revisited. He Still Looks Guilty

Post by Joe Guy »

Is anyone else watching The People v. O.J. Simpson?

It is interesting. The biggest problem I have with it - other than the long and frequent commercials - is the actor who plays OJ doesn't look or sound anything like him. And when he gets upset, he sounds more like The Jack Benny Show's Rochester character than OJ Simpson. He's also short and not very muscular looking.

And then there is John Travolta playing Robert Shapiro. Not a bad job but to me it's more funny than serious.

I will continue to watch it. It's hard to believe it has been over 20 years since the trial.

If you're going to watch it, record it first so you can skip the commercials...

Yeah, OJ never made it to the Super Bowl. But he is still is owner of a World Record in Track and Field.

I can't watch it until it becomes available to stream, but I will when it does.

I still remember the verdict, I was in my Master's program and teaching and we brought the TV into the classroom to watch. I remember being just sick when they read the verdict and that most of my students didn't GAF.

Ask a teenager today what he or she thinks of OJ; there's a reality check for you. ;)

Interesting. A couple days ago in the supermarket checkout line the guy behind me was perusing the tabloids, which had an OJ "headline" on the cover. He went on a couple minute mini-rant (more "astonished" I guess) about why the hell OJ was still in the news (uh, supermarket tabloid, dude).

I don't like Tavolta's portrayal of Shapiro, and I'm not a big fan of David Schwimmer as Kardashian either. But I do think the actress portraying Marsha Clark got some of her mannerisms dead on. I'm hoping it gets better when the trial starts--the Bronco chase episode almost took as long as the actual Bronco chase.

And you're right about the number of commercials and frequency of breaks.

I don't know why they didn't include this part when they reenacted the slow speed chase....

Gosh darn I miss Peter Jennings; one of the last best television news anchors.

I saw Clark interviewed about it and she spoke very favorably about the portrayal of her and of the show in general, that it really did capture the essence of what went on. Unless she has a book coming out soon, I don't see that she has a reason to lie.

I can't bring myself to watch it, I saw enough of the real thing to be sufficiently disgusted.

Ditto...

I'm sure the movie doesn't have any more happy an ending than the real thing did...

The interaction between the members of The Dream Team and the way each lawyer is portrayed is interesting. And I had forgotten about all of the damning evidence that didn't make it to trial.

I won't give away the ending because you might change your mind and decide to watch it later.

Uh, that's like, humorous, right? Or have they changed history?
