John Prine Endures, With a Half-Smile and a Song

By DAN BARRYAPRIL 6, 2016

A man in search of a pint found one in an Irish establishment in Midtown. He was short and everyday, save for his spikes of gray-white hair and a sizable indentation in his neck — the mark of something endured. He looked like a guy who’d been around, and was grateful to still be.

Prine Time

Post by RayThom »

For years, while friends, many of them Nam vets, were dying around me due to alcohol soaked, heroin drug use, triggered by PTSD, I embraced Prine's "Sam Stone" as almost an anthem to them. Too many restless souls having to die way too soon before finding peace. To this day I cannot listen to this song without shedding a tear for them.

I almost missed this thread...

I'm really glad I didn't...(I also somehow missed the story in my copy of the NYT...I frequently don't get to the "Arts" section...)

Thanks for posting that Long Run; as a long time hardcore Prine fan, I really enjoyed the article... :ok
