Now you've done it! I don't blame Meade one bit for being pissed off. He wasn't asking for a critique. He was sharing a list of folk albums that he thought people here might like...

Well, I really don't know just who/what produced this list of the best. I do see that 15/20, 75%, are performers I know not at all.

But yes, I would put Odetta on any list of even ten best.

All music is subjective but as (world) folk music goes I have no problem with this list although I'm unfamiliar with some of these artists. When I get in a folksy mood I'll download a few.

If you think you can do better with the genre post your own lists so we'll pick them apart, too.

Judging by all your posts since you left for good yesterday shows that it's hard to say goodbye. If you swallow your pride I'm sure Gob can be swayed to ignore your "delete all" request.

I guess it depends on your definition of folk music, but did I miss the albums from Joni Mitchell, John Prine, Gordon Lightfoot, Van Morrison? And you can make the case that artists like Neil Young, Steve Earle, James Taylor, etc. fit the genre. We could probably fill 20 pages with albums that most of us would think are better than most on that list (mainly because, like SG, we have never heard of most of the names on the list).

...or Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Tom Paxton, Leadbelly (Huddie Ledbetter), Steve Goodman, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Paul Simon (with & without Art Garfunkle), Stan Rogers, Jean Ritchie, Gordon Bok, Rosalie Sorrels, Phil Ochs, Doc Watson, the Byrds, the Carter Family...?

P.S. The list also needs several more Bob Dylan albums; The Times They Are A-Changin' isn't even his best.
