While I tend to agree it is no one's business, I also do think that some people suffering from similar problems might be more open to getting help if the problems are seen among other people. especially the rich and famous, and are not covered up as something shameful. part of Carrie fisher's life was spent telling her story for exactly that reason; I saw her in a one woman show on Broadway and she was quite open about her mental health issues and use of drugs, stating how much better she felt when she addressed them. I imagine she would not have objected to the results being public if it could help people.

At some time in the future it may be used to help people, but right now it's just tabloid fodder and click-bait for their on-line siblings.
Whatever happened to the old courtesy of never speaking ill of the dead, or the mantra of Thumper's mother?

You're right about the tabloid fodder, BB, but I do think there is value to some in seeing they are not alone with their problems, as well as seeing that recovery is a daily process and not something that continues without a lot of hard work. FWIW, I really don't think any less of her because she had drug addition problems anymore than I would if she died of cancer--we don't choose our diseases, and I give her a lot of credit for addressing it.

Only 'cause she's famous. Her speaking out about her disease is/was admirable and maybe brought attention to the underlying (mental health and addiction)problems.
I think, bringing out these "facts" of her death are more for sensationalism than helping those similarly afflicted. but that's just the cynic in me

I know more "non-famous" people who have died (in relative silence) of this disease than those who were "famous" who have died.
I try and remember them all in my prayers but the list gets longer every week it seems.

Precisely. In spite of the fact that there has been no link between the toxicology and cause of death, there is this nyeh, nyeh, told you so quality about much of the coverage of this that I find highly distasteful.

The woman had a rather brutal and fairly public battle with a variety of substances. That she didn't manage to live out her life remaining 100% sober all of the time shouldn't be cause for sanctimonious judgment. Given her family history alone, it is a testament to her that she didn't OD while still a teenager. To say nothing of whatever personal demons she had to face down.

She is one of my heroes. More people should have her courage and her honesty.

I agree Guin; I have a lot of respect for her and the way she publicly faced her demons.
