A very pained and troubled young woman for most of her life. I'm saddened, yet not surprised.
IIRC -- there are family ties between her, Moya Brennan, Enya, and Clannad. Some of the best "Irish traditional/Celtic rock fusion" performers ever to be assembled.

This really gutted me when I heard the news; I lived to a Cranberries-heavy soundtrack through much of college, graduate school, law school and beyond. They’re one of the few big concerts I’ve been to in my life - in 1999 at Nissan Pavilion, Manassas, Virginia with Collective Soul as the opening act.
She was a year younger than me; way too young to be gone.

So I really loved the music, but didn’t get much involved with following the personal lives of the band members; apparently in addition to battling bipolar disorder which was only recently diagnosed in the wake of her 2014 divorce, Dolores had also battled anorexia on and off for many years. Considering she also birthed 3 children, that’s a lot of wear and tear on the heart muscle - and considering she was also a survivor of extensive childhood sexual abuse, it’s likely that self-medication was also an issue. I’m guessing cause of death might be something along the lines of heart issues, possibly drug related.
What a songbird she was; I hadn’t followed her much past Bury the Hatchet and look forward to discovering her solo work.
RIP

As I read it, it will come down to a drug induced suicide due to sustained clinical depression. The pathology is too strong for me to feel otherwise.
