Released July 13, but not showing anywhere in a reasonable driving distance of Bear DE for a movie.

I see lots of comments about it, even outside the normal movie discussion venues, blog and social opinion stuff, that say it is great. But the kind of 'greatness' seems to go int two directions. Most say it is a wonderfully portrayal of life for kids today. Most say it is heart-warming and very funny. But there is another group that say the valid and powerful artistic truth in the movie leaves them very sad, even extremely depressed, not funny at all.

Anybody here who actually saw it?

I had wanted to see it, but it seemed to be restricted to small art houses and, even then, disappeared quickly. I'm waiting for it to come to Netflix.

My guess is that it's kind of a movie without a broad audience, a little too mainstream for the art house crowd, and a little too arty for Cineplex crowd. I think they were hoping for another Ladybird, which kind of successfully bridged these gaps, but it's unusual for a film to do that.

From what i’ve heard it’s both.

Terry Gross did a great interview on Fresh Air last week with writer/director Bo Burnham. Eighth Grade is still playing in Philly, but I probably won't get to see it until it's on one of the streaming services.
