HGTV is about to film the most nostalgic home makeover show ever. The network just snapped up the house featured in the beloved TV sitcom, "The Brady Bunch," CNN reports. It’s unclear what the network will do with the house, but a network executive promised they will restore the home to bring it back to its Brady-family roots.
HGTV’s parent company, Discovery, confirmed the purchase on a conference call to shareholders. “You may have heard that the house from the iconic series was recently on the market in California. I'm excited to share that HGTV is the winning bidder and we'll restore the home to its 1970s glory as only HGTV can,” Discovery CEO David Zaslav said on the call. “More details to come over the next few months, but we'll bring all the resources to bear to tell safe, fun stories with this beloved piece of American TV history."
But the purchase didn’t come without some drama. Former ‘NSYNC member Lance Bass had previously placed a bid on the house, and announced on social media he had placed the winning bid. But the next day, he gave an update that he was “heartbroken” to learn a corporation had outbid him after the deadline had passed. It’s unclear how much HGTV paid for the property.
“I truly believe I was used to drive up the price of the home knowing very well that this corporation intended on making their offer and it’s not a good feeling,” he wrote. “ I just hope it is not demolished.”
Luckily for Bass, HGTV doesn’t appear to want to demolish the North Hollywood, California house. And if the network is looking for a star for its Brady-centric show, they already have an interested celeb waiting in the wings.
Update, 1:35 p.m: Bass responded to the news HGTV bought the house, and it seems like there are no hard feelings. "I’d be pretty upset if it were anyone else, but how can you be mad at HGTV??" he tweeted. "My television is stuck on that channel. Kudos HGTV, I know you will do the right thing with the house."
Anyone else think they intend to strip the place to the walls and re-do the interior to mirror (as much as possible) what we saw on our Zeniths?
