On HBO, 5 part series, parts 1 & 2 already aired.

It’s brilliant & devastating. Absolutely terrifying to realize how close things came to being 10,000 times worse than they already were. Heartbreaking to contemplate the people who died horrific deaths in sacrifice to save their fellow citizens and tens of millions on the extended continent.

Based on the first two episodes I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Is this series all-inclusive or is it mainly highlighting the death and destruction?

A few years ago, PBS aired a NOVA program on how the sarcophagus that now covers it was developed and built.

From the reviews I’ve read, I believe it stays focused on the accident and the immediate aftermath, including how Soviet scientists figured out how the RMBK reactor melted down to begin with - something that was thought impossible. The acting is brilliant, including Emily Watson, Jared Harris and Stellan Skarsgaard.

eta: There are a number of good documentaries on Chernobyl and the aftermath available on Amazon video. I saw that NOVA about the sarcophagus; I believe they’ve now built two of them. The area will need to be managed for 10,000 years so hopefully there are plans in place . . .

Just finished episode 3; death by radiation poisoning has got to be one of the most horrific ways to go.
