Two really special Irish souls have gone and left the world less beautiful.

And while I know MacGowan was a brilliant lyricist, his cover of someone else’s song is one of my favorites of his and always makes me cry.

Do you see this?
That is a sterling-silver rat's ass, and that's more than I give about some Irish musician who kicked the bucket.

BB. And that was necessary because.....?
I've never heard of either of those mentioned below but neither that nor your lack of interest are reasons to crap on a thread.
I'll have to listen to these Pogue people etc now.

When Sinead O'Connor passed away earlier this year, millions of people around the world genuinely mourned her passing.
When Shane MacGowan passed away this week, millions of people around the world began to genuinely mourn his passing.
Both brough light and incredible art into this broken world and by so doing relieved the anguish of life as experienced by millions of people. Their legacy remains and will continue to connect with their fellow humans for generations to come.
Who will miss BB?
Enough said.

I am not in this world to "bring light and incredible art into this broken world" or "relieve the anguish of life as experienced by millions of people". I am also not in this world to live up to anyone's else's expectations of me, except for maybe those of my parents — and they could be summed up as "stay out of serious trouble, become a productive member of society, and try to be happy while doing it." So far, I think I've been doing a pretty good job of that.
And as for "who will miss me when I'm gone"? Look in the mirror and ask yourself the same question. Maybe you have a family and children who will miss you, for a while — but in terms of the rest of the world or even people on the other side of Boston, you're just another cipher, no bigger or smaller than I am.
