Went to our local symphony last night and the soloists were these two sisters who came down from New York -- Hina and Fiona Khuong-Huu. (Both study with Li Lin and Itzhak Perlman at Juilliard, the younger one still in the pre-college division.) And OMG they are frickin' amazing. Hina (20) played Ravel's Tzigane, Fiona (17) played Saint-Saens's Rondo Capriccioso and then the two together played Sarasate's duet Navarra -- all pieces that really show off technique and musicianship, requiring the highest level of virtuosic skill. And hoo-boy did they deliver, and were very obviously having a blast doing so. If you ever get a chance to see either or both, make the time and pay the money. These young women will be superstars tomorrow.
