Is he being Petty?

(RTTNews) - Tom Petty has asked Michele Bachmann to stop playing his songs during her campaign appearances.

The Republican presidential hopeful from Minnesota played Petty's "American Girl" at a rally launching her presidential campaign on Monday, after which she was sent a cease and desist letter by Petty's management team. The song had been previously approved for use by Hillary Clinton during her 2008 presidential campaign.

In 2008, Petty sent a cease and desist letter to Republican candidate George W. Bush when he discovered that the Bush campaign was using his song "I Won't Back Down" at rallies.

The letter told the then-presidential hopeful: "This use has not been approved. Any use made by you or your campaign creates, either intentionally or unintentionally, the impression that you and your campaign have been endorsed by Tom Petty, which is not true."

She should instead choose Ted Turner as a VP running mate and then use the song 'You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet' by Bachman-Turner Overdrive...

She'd very likely get the 70's burned out hippie vote.

Of course he's being Petty. Who else would he be?

On a similar vein David Byrne settled a lawsuit earlier this year against Charlie Crist for illegally using his song "Road to Nowhere" . All artists have a right that their work not be used without their permission.

IMO she is just an American Girl who is Learning to Fly Into the Great Wide Open. She is trying to reach A Higher Place and be more than A Face in the Crowd. She should be allowed to use Anything That's Rock 'n' Roll to do so. Tom Petty needs to stop this "Don't Do Me Like That" bullshit and have a Change of Heart. Only he can Make it Better.

I'm not sure about that. The Director in Tropic Thunder was English and Tom Petty is American.

Also their hair colour is different.
