Did I miss a decade or two?

At the gym this morning on TV there were adverts for New Years Eve at Sydney. It's usually a great show, so I was interested in what was going on.

Apart from the amazing fireworks display, and other stuff, they have a some bands playing.
The just-announced New Year’s Eve party in Sydney Harbour will feature the Pet Shop Boys, Boy George’s band Culture Club, Jamiroquai, Guy Sebastian, Pseudo Echo and Lyndsey Ollard.

The Sydney Resolution Concert Series event will be staged at Sydney’s Glebe Island overlooking the Harbour on Saturday December 31, promising an unforgettable night of music and festivities, showcasing some of the biggest acts in the world against a backdrop that only Sydney can provide.

“With unobstructed, stunning views of the city and the fireworks display, there is no better place to be on New Year’s Eve than Glebe Island,” says the concert’s crew.

Glebe Island will turn into a ‘mini city’ for the event, with a custom-built venue providing entertainment and bars, including an on-site ‘village’ showcasing Sydney’s best local and international food, and a unique array of retail and market stalls.

Patrons will arrive and depart by ferry or bus service from terminals and wharfs provided by the event. It’s set to be a licensed event – so all patrons must be over 18 years of age. Gates open at 2pm on the day, entertainment commences at 4pm and all performances will conclude by 1:45am. Ticket prices go from $198 for general admission, through to $750 for VIP packages.
Pet Shop Boys, Boy George and Culture Club, Jamiroquai? What? Am I back in 1984 again?

Fuck me pink!!!

"Hip music!" I said to Hen. "Hip replacement music ," was her rather droll reply.

I'd rather stay home, turn up the volume on my Nakamichi stereo system (listen to some classic rock) and get royally drunk. :ok

I hear they were cleaning out some warehouses down by the Harbour when they stumbled upon them in a crate up the back.

That's where we store Meatloaf in between AFL Grand Final commitments.

Who?

Some drag guy and his band; sounds dimly familiar; but maybe I'm thinking of Bowie.

Who?

Who?

Who?

Who?

Have I been thrown forward into 1984 again?

That's a shame.

Interestingly the adverts are showing Boy George as he was then, young and pretty, not as he is now, a pantomime dame.

This made me chuckle;
BOY George has hit out at The X Factor, claiming the show would have rejected pop superstar David Bowie.

The Karma Chameleon singer - who earlier this year said he'd love to join the judging panel on the ITV series - said the talent contest was to blame for dumbing down music.
Of course, Boy George was always noted for his highly intellectual music.

O.M.G. Where did he get that hat?

It is exactly like something my old Aunt would wear (sans the skull bedazzling).

What a load of rubbish. David Bowie would have done very well on X Factor or any other talent show. He has sung his own individual style over the years, but on talent shows like XFactor they usually do covers. David Bowie could cover any song and cover it brilliantly. He has a wonderful voice and a real depth - he's a true and versatile talent. His drummer boy/peace on earth is one of my Christmas favourites, so I've dug it out to illustrate ... :)
