This could be a banner year for San Jose resident David Sharpe, whose third album, "Are We There Yet?," has been nominated for Best Children's Album at the 54th annual Grammy Awards next month.
"This is like a dream come true for me," said Sharpe, perhaps better known musically as PapaHugs. "I write and perform children's music because I love to see children come alive through the gift of song. I never dreamed this passion of mine could lead to sitting in the same room with the greatest current artists in the music world. I am humbled to say the least."
All three albums -- including 2006's "All the Things You Dream," which was inspired by Sharpe's grandchildren, and 2008's "A Great Day for You and Me" were recorded at Open Path Music Studio in Willow Glen.
A Grammy nomination could make a guy think about quitting his day job, but a lot of Bay Area feet hope that doesn't happen: Sharpe has had a podiatry practice for more than 30 years and was a founding member of the division of podiatric surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose.
