Lindsay Lohan is to play Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor in a new film about her life, US network Lifetime Television has confirmed.
The project, called Liz & Dick, will be based on the story of her romance and two marriages to Welsh actor Richard Burton.
The British actress died at the age of 79 in March last year.
"I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor," said Lindsay Lohan in a statement.
The actress, who made her name in the film Mean Girls, leaked the news about her role last month in an interview and posted a picture of herself dressed as Taylor on Twitter.
Lohan recently appeared on US comedy show Saturday Night Live and landed a guest spot on Glee.
The 25-year-old was released from five years of formal probation last month over a 2007 drink-driving case.
She has been trying to change her image recently after being in and out of jail, rehab and court.
Elizabeth Taylor met Burton on the set of the 1963 film Cleopatra.
They began a passionate love affair that made headlines around the world.
They married and divorced twice over the years.

I bet Lindsay will do very well playing Liz.
She is a very good actress and she even has the Liz look.
Don't pre-judge her based on her bad press.
Liz was not exactly a saint, if I recall correctly.

It has nothing to do with her personal life. She hasn't worked in anything but fluff.

Not too long ago, she was also cast to play Linda Lovelace in a film adaption of her autobiography, but she got booted off that project....

'Cha, Taylor was a five-star actress; why would they cast a pop-star in her role?

Lilo is not a pop star, she's an actress who has released two albums.

Life imitating art imitating life... imitating imitation.
Too much time and energy is devoted to shit that just doesn't matter.
Put Melissa McCarthy in a wheelchair and she can play "Liz: The Final Chapter."

Don't you see it?
Lindsay will do an excellent acting job, be nominated for an oscar and her career will reach new heights.
Don't edit this post, Daisy, I'll need to refer to it in the future after she get's the oscar noomination.

She reminds me of Liz in 'A Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'.

They've both had surgeries.
Liz's scars are a little harder to see now...

Well, remakes are NEVER as good as the original. But I can see what the producers are looking at.
