Well, Simon said it: Charlotte, while being supportive of him, is really holding Jonathan back. If he could get some training and polish, he could do some great things with that voice.

We've seen the Zimmers already with "my generation". Yeah, it works. And the fat kid with the girl is the kind of audience manipulation Simon &c (the asshole) has made a fortune out of.

Mind you, the fat kid is really good but if he doesn't lose > 150lbs, soon, it really won't matter a fucking bit.

Certainly Josh Groban is evidence that a man need not be oversized to have an astounding voice; that young man has a lovely voice but he's nothing to look at and looks do matter in show biz.

Pavarotti's obesity wasn't integral to his perfect pitch, and was in fact a huge source of health problems during his life and his pigishness with food and alcohol probably influenced greatly his eventual early death by cancer.
He's also reasonably better looking than that REALLY huge male singer on Britian's Got Talent.

I asserted, and gave examples in support, that size isn't necessary to a great voice. And looks do matter in show biz.

He's rumoured to be worth £10 million ($16.07 million), insured for £1 million, with a book deal in the works and an offer to be the face of an advertising campaign.
He is a dog named Pudsey.
The six-year-old, whose ancestry includes border collie, Chinese crested powderpuff and bichon frise, and his owner, 17-year-old Ashleigh Butler won Britain's Got Talent on Saturday night, taking home £500,000.
The Daily Mail reported Pudsey had become something of a diva since his big win, expecting trips on private jets, being escorted by bodyguards and having a trademarked name.
They also estimated Pudsey's show business career could earn him millions.
But Ms Butler hosed down some of the more outrageous claims about the canine's celebrity status during an interview on British breakfast show Daybreak.
On Pudsey having three security guards: "That is not true."
On his name being trademarked by Simon Cowell's production company: "No".
On a book deal: "Maybe".
On being the face of a dog food commercial: "Nothing's been confirmed yet".
On getting security in her backyard: "I haven't been home yet, so not at the moment".

My point about Pavarotti, which could also apply to Jonathan, is that his size is not all due to obesity. My BF has also taken classical vocal training since he was young; and I'm convinced those continual exercises, are what have contributed to a 'barrel-chested' physique.
In my BF's family, none are as 'beefy' as he is, but no one else has had his life long interest in the choir, which expands the lungs and ribcage.
Granted, Jonathan has his extra body fat, but his voice belays a large lung capacity, that just needs to be further trained.
We thoroughly enjoy Josh Groban, but he's young; and didn't start developing his voice until he was in his late teens. As The Great Tenor's did, I think his chest will continue to expand as he exercises it.
