A thread for Sue's son!

Post by Gob »

Ok, with youtube links if possible, which bass players do you like / admire / enjoy.

For me?

John Camp of Renaissance.

The late Gary Thain of Uriah Heep.

Chris Squire of Yes.

Note to rubato, Quaddy if he's looking in, this is a thread for bass players you like / admire / enjoy not for one upmanship of the "Joe Bunion is the greatest bass player ever to have lived cos I like him so he must be so there" variety.

No YouTube links as I'm posting from my phone but for starters:

Jack Bruce
Randy Meisner
Simon Gallup
Rocco Prestia
Noel Redding
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Funny you should mention Wetton Meade, when I saw the Heep back in the 70's Thain had just died, and was replaced by Wetton.

Surely you do not mean the Gothic Goddess Sue?

Well, like I've said before, I won't say anything bad about anyone who ever played with dear departed Jeffrey Lee.

But seriously, was no one going to even mention Flea?

Bass players?

Jaco Pastorius or Victor Wooten. None of those mentioned above are in their league:

How childlike the retard is; "Waaa, my bass players are better than yours...Waaaa..." Just like a little spoiled brat.

There is a hidden line at the end of the OP, quoting it brings it up, how predictable some people are.....
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

Now now Gob... Rubato's opinions count for much more than ours because he is so much more sophisticated than the rest of us plebes. He's even heard of Kafka doncher know!

On topic... Pastorius is a talented and innovative melodic bassist but when it comes to performing the role that a bassist is meant to perform I find him uninspiring and unimaginative. Call me old fashioned but I like to see a musician sort out the rudiments of their instrument before trying to reinvent it...
