Gale Warning

The celebrated author Patrick Gale is coming to Canberra, and will be giving a talk on his new book, "A Perfectly Good Man", and other writings, at the National Library of Australia.

Patrick's husband, Aidan, is a good mate of mine, though unfortunately will not be accompanying Patrick on this trip. Never the less I've talked Patrick into going for a beer with me after the talk. Not only that but the lovely guy has agreed, time willing, to pop into my favourite book shop, the owner of which is a BIG fan of his, and to sign some of his books for her. (She doesn't know this yet!)

Had a great night. Patrick's talk on his works and especially his new book, (above,) was riveting. He didn't get a chance to visit the bookshop as he was being flown to Sydney for another talk first thing in the morning. However I did get to introduce the girl from the bookshop to him, and her, and her gay son, were enraptured. Even more enraptured was the mother in law, who bought all the books he was touting, got them signed, and had to be pulled off him with a crowbar.

After the talk, the mother in law drove us into the city, and me, Patrick and his minder from Harper Collins, Jane, spent the night at my favourite mircobrewery.

Load of funny tales to tell about the evening, but 'll save them for the blog.
