Too old to rock 'n' roll

Too old to be bothered going to see them..

The Eagles are playing Aus soon. I never liked them even in their heyday, so i won't be bothered going to see them. As I won't bother with Peter Frampton. In fact a great number of people are touring at the moment, some of whom I loved back in the 60's 70's or 80's, and would love to go to see again, some who I loved back then but wouldn't even bother crossing the road to see now.

Case in point was Deep Purple, they played Canberra the other day and I didn't even look at the ticket prices. I saw DP mark II back in the 70's, andas the band that is touring now only has 3 original members, without Lord and Blackmore, that's not DP as far as I can see.

So then folks, what acts from back in the day are still worth seeing?

I'll kick us off with

Alice Cooper
Jethro Tull

I went to see The Eagles about 7-8 years ago. They were never the most energetic of stage acts so they can still do what they always did just as well.

The Stones are always worth a look...

I want to change my answer, as while I enjoyed the concerts, the band were never good performers. Even their music started to slide towards the end. Going to a GD show, was like going to a sixties street fair, that was the fun of it.

So, let me change that to;

I saw them on their 'Nine Lives' Tour and all them still have all their power and energy.
Steven Tyler was classically trained and knows how to take care of his voice. At the show I saw, I never dreamed he'd sing "Dream On" live ...then as the band began it, I was sure they'd do some kind of guitar trick for the climatic high notes, BUT NO! Tyler hit every chord perfectly and for the same duration on the studio album! All of that, with all his wicked signature moves! He didn't even look tired at the end of the show.

BTW I don't say that just because they're going to be in the Bay Area in two weeks, and it would be an awfully nice birthday present if someone sent me tickets? ;)- ;)

Of course, there's one femal star who is always worth a watch...
Kylie Minogue claims UK number one album

Kylie Minogue has claimed a UK chart-topping album for the fifth time with her latest release Aphrodite.

The Australian pop star scored her first number one album in the same week 22 years ago.

The singer displaced rap star Eminem from pole position, while the only other new entry in the top 10 was Enrique Iglesias's album Euphoria.

Bruce!

As good now as ever was, and turning 61 this fall.

I'd rate Bon Jovi up there as well. Saw them this spring and I was impressed.

(and no, I'm not from Jersey, nor ever will be 8-) )

Not just cos he's Welsh, and not just cos he sets Dylan Thomas's poems to his music, still worth seeing at nearly 70 years old, John Cale.

Also; former political-punk/Style Councilor/now elder statesman of Brit Pop...

Paul Weller

Meat Loaf...he has lost a bit of range & some of his sheer vocal POWER (he's 62), but still puts on quite a show. (And his band is EXCEPTIONAL.)

Billy Joel is also still a great showman.

I can honestly say that I would be just as interested in going to see a Leonard Cohen concert today as I was back in the late 70's....

He is every bit as good as he ever was....

I saw Nine Inch Nails last year and enjoyed it, but I think that might have been their last tour.

Last year, a friend of mine went to see Sammy Hagar, The Red Rocker, who's still in concert. He still hasn't lost his touch. He was one of the first rockers to wear those wireless head mics, so he can hop around like a flea on a hot brick!

I'm too cheap to pay for tickets these days, but I saw Burning Spear a while back at a free show, and it was good.

I like the Jalan Crosland Band from Buffalo, Wyoming.

I should have put hat in the Laffs section.

Last year the Mrs. bought us tickets to the Elton John benefit for the Shepard Foundation. It was a really good show.

So I get all excited because CCR are touring over here in October. Then I find out it's without Fogerty.

Fuck that!

Still good even though they have an average age of 112.

There's only a few "rock" acts from the old days I'd bother with, and even then only if they were playing a club-sized venue: Neil Young, Lou Reed, X and Yo La Tengo (if YLT is properly considered an "old days" act now). I would have loved to have seen Jeff Beck with that young Ozzie bassist gal (Tal Wilkenfeld) he was touring with last year, but she's now on tour with Herbie Hancock; gonna see about tickets for their show in Philly next month. Plenty of reggae, blues, jazz and folk shows I'd go to if I could get the opportunity.

So I got tickets to the Herbie Hancock show, in large part to check out Tal Wilkenfeld (my son, whom I'm taking to the show for his birthday, is a jazz bass player). And then Tal announces she's been injured and has to leave the tour! So I'm a bit disappointed, until they announce the replacement: for one night only, at the Philly show: Marcus Miller! :ok    :ok
