Love Me Do 50 years on

Post by Gob »

Fifty years ago this week, the first Beatles single Love Me Do was released, launching the Fab Four's career.

The song was a hit with the teenagers of the 1960s but what do young people today think of the song - and have they even heard of it?

BBC News spoke to pupils at Burntwood School, in Wandsworth, south-west London, to get their verdict.

The interwebs cites their first hit single to be "Please, please me".

That was their first number one, "Love me do" only made number 17.

Fucking Supersonic?

I've seen pictures of the interior of the Concorde and it looks like it would've been pretty cramped....

If hadn't been for the Beatles, nobody in the U.S. would know the significance of England.

If it hadn't been for The Beatles, The Stones would not have broken into the US so easily.

If you're *old* maybe

Seriously though, I do love the Beatles -- I think my early consciousness was filled with their music in the background. But my younger sister and her husband are just young enough to have missed it, and not give a damn about them at all.

Then again We wouldn't have been subjected to Oasis so it's a wash ;)

It was in the US, Jim....the Beatles were not on the radar here until 1963 - - - - Love Me Do came out in 1962 in the UK.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.
