Love Me Do 50 years on

Fifty years ago this week, the first Beatles single Love Me Do was released, launching the Fab Four's career.

The song was a hit with the teenagers of the 1960s but what do young people today think of the song - and have they even heard of it?

BBC News spoke to pupils at Burntwood School, in Wandsworth, south-west London, to get their verdict.

Well, you learn something new every day...

For some reason I had always thought that I Wanna Hold Your Hand was The Beatles first hit...

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

I've seen pictures of the interior of the Concorde and it looks like it would've been pretty cramped....

But at that speed everything got six inches longer? Or was that just the jetframe?

If it hadn't been for The Beatles, The Stones would not have broken into the US so easily.

Seriously though, I do love the Beatles -- I think my early consciousness was filled with their music in the background. But my younger sister and her husband are just young enough to have missed it, and not give a damn about them at all.

It was in the US, Jim....the Beatles were not on the radar here until 1963 - - - - Love Me Do came out in 1962 in the UK.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.
