Insane genius

Post by Gob »

I've got on the i-pod a 2 3/4 hour retrospective/ tribute to Spike Milligan. It's equally astonishing, sad, and insightful, as well as being a bloody hoot to listen to at times.

The connection between his manic-depressive/shell-shocked state and his creative genius is well explored.

Talented man, comedian, author, broadcaster, musician, painter, poet, goon, madman.

“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

I love Spike.

He was as mad as a cut one.

Most refreshing Gob - thanks. Odd that he's so often identified as the nutcase when Peter Sellers (poor bugger) was definitely letting the cheese slip off his bread on a regular basis. Who'd have thought that Seagoon would have been the normal one?

Normal?!?

You never watched Highway?
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Ok, mate no worries. (CDs recognise no international boundaries though!)

Oh it's not a visual thing - radio? I've had trouble with CDs with pictures (I don't mean DVDs) playing them in PCs here vs there.

It's a radio four tribute, (sorry I should have made that more clear.) I can burn it as a couple of music type CDs, or send it as MP3, no images.

Manic depression Spike Milligan

The pain is too much

A thousand grim winters

grow in my head

In my ears

the sound of the

coming dead.

All Seasons

All Sane

All Living

All Pain.

No opiate to lock still

my senses

Only left,

the body locked tenses
