You actually don't know what you look like, do you?

Mikey got with Sharon, Sharon got Sheriee
She was sharin' Sharon's outlook on the topic of disease
Mikey had a facial scar and Bobby was a racist
They were all in love dyin' they were doin' it in Texas
Tommy played piano like a kid out in the rain then he lost his leg in Dallas he was dancin' with the train
They were all in love with dyin' they were drinkin' from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain
I don't mind the sun sometimes the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugar-y and softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people's eyes
Some will die in hot pursuit and fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit while sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain
I don't mind the sun sometimes the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugar-y and softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people's eyes
Another Mikey took a knife while arguing in traffic
Flipper died a natural death he caught a nasty virus
Then there was the ever-present football player rapist they were all in love with dyin' they were doin' it in Texas
Paulie caught a bullet but it only hit his leg
While it should have been a better shot got him in the head
They were all in love with dyin' they were drinkin' from a fountain
That was pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain
I don't mind the sun sometimes the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugar-y and softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people's eyes
Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is

AH, NICK DRAKE. GONE TO SOON

Post by RayThom »

Listen to the lyrics and you can feel the confusion and pain Drake was wearing on his sleeve. Coming from a dark place, for sure. A brilliant cover by Calexico.

Could't agree more! It's not like anyone still remembers say... The Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson, etc.

No residue whatsoever!
There's this and there's that.

Some can tell the difference.

Not you. Too bad.

Okay, so you don't actually know what pop music is or means.

Not surprising really, you have shown in the past that your knowledge of music is sadly lacking. Let me know by PM if you'd like a few lessons on music theory/appreciation. I could tell you what your username means for starters if you like... :)
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Stolen?

Hey someone has to take Quads place as a foil to your musical knowlege.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

IIRC, when rubato first appeared at the Car Talk/Cafe Dartre boards he explained his name and the musical definition of the term; he said he considered the time he spent posting on the internet "stolen time" in a sense.

I've been listening to these guys a lot recently, they are having a big influence on my small attempts at composing.

This guy has some serious talent. Lewd and libidinous, sure, but also funny and kinda sweet. Already a Youtube star.

As we can see plainly from, e.g., Bach's Goldberg Variations, Mozart's Sonata in E-flat (K. 282), Beethoven's Appassionata (Sonata No. 23) and Pastoral (Symphony No. 6), Listz's Fantasia on Hungarian Folk Melodies, Bartok's Romanian Folk Dances, Dvorak's American String Quartet (Op. 96) ....

Pop leaves no residue.

Except, evidently, in the musical output of various great composers.

But other than that ....

I've always said Mozart was probably the greatest tunesmith ever. If he were alive today, he'd be cranking out the hits -- a one-man Tin Pan Alley.
