That came along in 1977, about five or six years after he crashed onto the scene with "Convoy" and the rest of those 'novelty trucker songs', as you put it.  Otherwise, that kind of sentimental stuff would have probably been left to the likes of Red Sovine (who did end up recording and releasing a version of it too, by the way).

And it was those "novelty trucker songs" that gave him the standing, a label — (out of OMAHA, of all places!!), and the backing to be able to do something like that....  or like these:

Yeah, he was more than a one-hit flash-in-the-pan curiosity act, for sure.

And if the music in the second one I posted makes you start to think, even for a minute, that 'these guys can play!!' — well, you're right on that count too.  His back-up band was the nucleus of what we know now as Mannheim Steamroller.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Thank you Econoline! I now have her first: Joan Baez and also Farewell, Angelina. Just what I was looking for. "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" in German yet, was a complete welcome surprise.

You have to admit that it shows tenacity-all that setting up just so for the little train that could!

I've never been to the Philistines but I've known quite a few Filistinos.

It’s one of those that makes me wonder if anyone has ever watched the entire movie.

People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.
