I'm glad to see that becoming an "astronaut" has become so relatively common place...

I'd like to see it become more commonplace...

We now have well over a hundred people who can rightly call themselves "astronauts"...

But the folks who go back and forth from The Space Station, performing their tasks, will never be "astronauts" in the same way in the popular imagination that the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo Right Stuff astronauts were...

The public is never going to care about what shirts that guitar playing Canuck wears the way it once cared about what shirts John Glenn or Neil Armstrong wore...

Which is what the original Major Tom was about...

I believe I rtead it somewhere LJ that there are more Americans born AFTER the Apollo 11 than before it.

What is a mind blower is that my Grandmother (born in 1895) was alive for the Wright Brothers flight at Kitty Hawk and the manned moon landing in 1969.

Why is it that NO OTHER NATION HAS MANAGED TO DO WHAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA DID SOME 44 YEARS AGO?

We kicked ASS! :ok

Because we really didn't do it (at least that's what some people say :loon ) :D

Anyway, now we are nothing but fare paying bus riders to that hut in low earth orbit.

We do need some kind of space exploration agenda.

I couldn't agree more oldr...

I think it's a shameful embarrassment that for the first time in 50 years the nation that landed a man in the moon doesn't have a single manned launch vehicle to call it's own, even to run errands to the badly scaled down space station...

This country badly needs a new, dynamic manned space exploration strategy and agenda....
