Bringing a knife to a gun fight...

Post by Lord Jim »

Literally...
Police say man tried to rob gun store with knife, bat

A knife- and baseball bat-wielding man found himself outgunned Thursday when he entered Discount Gun Sales and smashed a display case, police said.

They've arrested and identified that man as Derrick Mosley, 22, and say he got his hands on an unloaded semi-automatic handgun before the store's manager drew his own.

The manager, whose name has not been released, commanded Mosley to drop his weapons and get down on the ground, according to police. The manager did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Washington County sheriff's deputies and Beaverton police got the call at about 4 p.m.

Sgt. Bob Ray, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said detectives have just begun investigating. The cost to fix the case is estimated at $250.

Mosley has been charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree theft, unlawful possession of a firearm and second-degree criminal mischief.

Gun stores are probably not the wisest of all targets one could pick for a hold-up under any circumstances, (at a guess I'd say that more often then not, there's a pretty good chance the owner is armed, and any customers that are about are likely to be armed as well) but if you insist on doing it, best to bring a little more weaponry along...

I get the impression that that's exactly why this guy was robbing a gun shop: to get "a little more weaponry" which he didn't have (but needed--for his planned career as a robber). He thought things through, but he only thought about steps 3 and 4, not steps 1 and 2.

This may get him the little bit more thinking-things-through time which he obviously desperately needs. :loon

I have yet to go into a gun store where the person behind the counter is not armed and displaying his weapon in full view. Even sporting goods stores which sell much more than just guns and ammo, the people at the gun section were all armed.
