The most stupid robbery attempt ever?

Post by Gob »

Surely this is the stupidest hold-up in history - and it was all captured on CCTV film.

A woman with a black rubbish sack over her head attempted to rob a jewellery shop while her accomplice waited outside with her getaway vehicle - a wheelchair. The farcical hold-up began when Noemi Duchene arrived outside the jewellers in El Paso, Texas, having being pushed to the store in a wheelchair.

As CCTV cameras captured her arrival outside the Estate and New Jewellery store, the 44-year-old rises out of the wheelchair.
She clumsily covers her head and body with a billowing black rubbish sack with two holes cut out for her eyes before walking into the store. Once inside she pulls out a 12inch-long hunting knife, approaches owner Linda Bradley and demands 'everything'.

But Bradley - who is clearly a cool head in a crisis - swiftly assessed the situation. Rather than be scared, the CCTV shows her running behind the counter to grab a pink-coloured stun gun and giving chase. The two women are captured on CCTV cameras running round the shop before another customer grabs Duchene and wrestles her to the floor. He held her down until police arrived and arrest her on armed robbery charges.

Her partner-in-crime, 45-year-old Luis Del Castillo. was arrested waiting in the car park standing by the wheelchair that was to be used in the getaway.

Store owner Bradley said she quickly realised she could outrun the robber as she was 'obviously not very quick'. 'We're chasing each other around like keystone cops,' Bradley said. 'I knew I could outrun her, because she was obviously not very quick. She is mad, and I'm saying get out of here and she is saying "You get out of here". 'You cannot be terrified when someone cannot run and has a black bag on their head.'

Both Duchene and Del Castillo have been held on aggravated robbery charges. Police said the couple lived across the street from the jewellery store.
