Re: When wits attack

For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Writer Edna Ferber was fond of wearing tailored suits well before they became fashionable. One day, she arrived at the Algonquin Hotel (home of the legendary gathering known as the 'Round Table') wearing a suit that was very similar to one that actor Noël Coward was wearing. Ferber and Coward were friends (she once described him as her favorite theater companion) and Coward saw his opportunity to engage in a bit of playful badinage with one of his favorite people. Carefully looking her over, he observed, "Edna, you look almost like a man."
Coward got his comeuppance when Ferber looked him over in a similar manner and turned his words against him with the classic riposte: "So do you."

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
