Re: Somewhere there is a whorehouse in need of new curtains
When I was first engaged, my spouse-to-be was invited to be part of many bridal parties. I observed the process, and went with her to some weddings where I was invited with her. I came to a conclusion and she agreed with my observation--The dresses chosen by whom ever for the bridal party are chosen specifically to make the bride look better and be totally unusable for any other occasion. And the members of the bridal party (in the tradition she was part of) are expected to buy their own dress.

I don't think I've ever heard of a tradition where anyone but the bridesmaids pay for their own dresses, and I agree most are pretty ugly (even worse when they were paired with hats).
when my daughter got married she chose a color (a shade of green) and told the bridesmaids to buy whatever gown in that color they wanted (they were different ages and styes (one was even pregnant) so one style would not fit all. I guess they could use them again, but how often are full length gowns worn? Even when I wear a tux to a black tie event, a cocktail dress suffices for my wife. I imagine a gown would be required with tails, but I have only worn tails when singing a few times (so few I don't own them), never to a social event.
