Name That Movie!
Yikes! I don't know hal anyone will get this especially with the clues you're giving. What else can you tell us?

Re: Name That Movie!
I see what you did there Ray
OK- if you're into the genre and are over say 40 years old, you've probably seen it. If you're not into that genre, you probably haven't. I didn't see it when it came out but it was constantly being played on "Superstation" WTBS in the late 80s. It fell out of favor after 1991.
The movie is full of anachronisms, but wasn't at the time it was made (the Astrodome quote being one of them).
The Lead actor played at least 3 (fictional) US Presidents.
The Lead Actress played at least 3 (real) Queens of England.
This movie, being a sequel, still had generally positive reviews from critics but wasn't nearly as successful as its predecessor. That's hardly unusual, considering its predecessor is in many circles considered one of the top 10 films of all time.

Gonna take a stab at it (based mostly on the clues, not the quote): "2010"?

"Lord, I'll never pick another pocket again as long as I live. I swear it. But here's the problem: You've got to let me live. How can I prove my good faith to you? If you've heard me, this ledge will remain steady as a rock, and that thing coming at me won't be what I think it is. If it is, there's no hard feelings, of course, but I'd be very disappointed."

How about "Legend?" A Tom Cruise stinker but the Jon Anderson and Tangerine Dream soundtrack is great.

The Richard Nixon Story?

You got it, Crackpot. Yeah, it was sort of a medieval fantasy chick-flick...but using the Matthew Broderick character as the central focus lifted it above that label. I loved it.

Your turn, CP.

I can't help that, <redacted>. Keeping our word is one of the things that make us... better than you.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Yeah, to borrow from what wes said about his humor, my hints are sometimes so subtle that they're mistaken for not being hints at all...I didn't even notice the hint until right now.

Re: Name That Movie!
The second quote gave it to me.

So-so movie, funnier than I think it was meant to be, but some great music. I believe there was originally supposed to be a sequel (in fact, I think they hoped this would become a 'franchise' like Indiana Jones or Star Wars), but the lack-luster reviews and poor performance at the box office kinda put the kibosh on that.
Even now, though, when it turns up on one of the late-night 'retro' channels I'll sometimes flip over to watch it.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
