Another brilliant film that I've watched several times, a huge favorite.

I'll never forget the elated star/director Robert Benigni walking across seat backs at the Academy Awards on his way to collect one of two awards for him - best actor & best foreign language film.

BSG keeps the streak going - :ok
I'll never forget the elated star/director Robert Benigni walking across seat backs at the Academy Awards on his way to collect one of two awards for him
That was classic:

And then followed by his acceptance speech for best actor:

"My body is in tumult, because it is a colossal moment of joy...I would like to be Jupiter and kidnap everybody and lie down in the firmament making love with everybody"

Two of the best acceptance speeches ever.

In keeping with a couple of the themes in that last offering (that's a huge hint - actually, 3 hints), try this one on for size:
[character 1]: Are you really German?
[character 2]: No. I'm a Jew.
[character 1]: I knew it. From the beginning I knew. I swear I won't betray you.
[character 2]: I had to tell someone. I couldn't stand it anymore.
[character 1]: You mustn't tell ____.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

No, but I had to look that one up and now it's in my queue - thanks!

This film is from the same time period, just a wee bit younger than Angry Harvest. Yes it's obviously Holocaust-related and yes it's a foreign film. Those are the three hints.

No - and is that the whole title? Couldn't find a movie with that title via Google . . .

That's right! :ok

It's the true story of a Jew who got through WWII by being in the Hitler Youth, etc. It's a terrific film that garnered much critical acclaim AND audience kudos. Really worth seeing if you missed it at release!

Here's the trailer:

It sounds Mockingbird-esque but I'm pretty sure it's not.

Also, Dales, did you spell "defense" incorrectly on purpose?

No, only a simple cut and paste job from my quote source.

HINT:

The film is based on a novel by Theodore Dreiser.

Quote source? I thought the whole idea of this game is to try guessing the movie without use of an internet search engine. I'd be guessing them all if I wanted to go directly to Google for help.

Calm down, Ray. He's not guessing the movie - he posted the quote and we're supposed to guess the movie.

Most of us don't have reams of movie quotes stored in the brain.

If I "win" and have to post a quote, I too go to the internet to find the exact wording of the quote that I need to post for my turn.

.

So do I...

I want to make sure I have the wording exact; that's the only way to make it fair for those who are trying to guess the quote.

Meade, I'm confused, and comprehension may not be my strong suit, but what else is new? I thought it was Dales who "guessed" the movie as being "Europa Europa" and then confirmed as correct by BoSoxGal who posted the movie quote. Silly me.

Yes, and then he posted a quote from a different movie for the rest of us to guess, which is what the subsequent exchange between Guin and him was about.

Speak for yourself, MajGenl.  I have a vast wealth of knowledge crammed into my brainpan....  Mark my words; the day will come when there will be some new multi-day champion on Jeopardy who takes his rightful place alongside other game-show legends like Ken Jennings, Arthur Chu, Michael Larson, and IBM's 'Watson' and you'll be able to say "Him?  I remember when he called himself 'Bicycle Bill' and posted on the old Café d'Artrè!"

But I'll admit, that while I can remember a lot of quotes (not all of them movie related, either) I do not recall them word for word, comma by comma, so I too also go to the internet to cut-and-paste the precise quotation when necessary.
