Did he plank, or did he fall?

POLICE have disputed claims that a 20-year-old man from Inverell was ''planking'' when he fell from a moving car.

Simon Hallam is in an induced coma after falling headfirst from a friend's car on Monday night.

He was taken to Inverell Hospital and then flown to Tamworth Base Hospital and on to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital, where he remained last night in a serious condition with head injuries.

Witnesses said Mr Hallam, a plasterer, had been planking on the boot of the Holden Commodore at the time of his injury. But a police spokeswoman said the man had been standing on the boot of the car when he fell.

A 19-year-old man, also from Inverell, has been charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm) and negligent driving. He has been granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Inverell Local Court on June 16.

The accident follows the weekend death of Acton Beale, 20, from Brisbane, who fell from a seventh-storey balcony railing, on which he intended to ''plank''.

Yesterday the Ambulance Ser-vice of NSW issued a statement warning people not to put themselves in danger when planking, an internet craze that involves being photographed while lying face-down in unusual locations. ''Whilst it may seem like some harmless fun, the idea of 'planking' and outdoing your mates can be fraught with danger,'' it said.

''It is recommended to avoid planking and other silly stunts whilst intoxicated and/or drug affected, especially in places that could see you seriously injured or killed, such as attempting such stunts from a tall building/object, roadway, railway line or other hazardous areas.''

No planking on the job..
Major retailers are cracking down on staff who are caught planking while on the job.

The flat-lying fad which is sweeping Australia is proving unpopular with bosses who claim the manoeuvre is jeopardising the health and safety of staff.

Food superstore Woolworths has sacked eight employees across three states this week for planking on top of meat grinders, display shelves, trolleys and stacks of milk crates, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The staff, including managers, regular staff, nightfill workers and casual employees, boasted about their escapades online, before being dismissed.

Woolworths' risk and safety general manager Anthony Wilson told the newspaper bosses were not trying to be killjoys, it was a case of the plankers putting themselves and customers at risk.

"It's not about being the fun police, it's about making sure people are looking out for their own safety," Mr Wilson said.

Well, like water and electricity, I should take the path of least resistance.

And Tea potting seams like the way to go. But don't quote me. Because I have a penchant for bucking authority.

Pics forthwith... ;)

Hang fire, planking and teapotting are out, balling's in...
They'll do it on desks, they'll do it on chairs, they'll even do it in costume - anywhere, as long as it's safe.

It's called balling, or people posing for photos wrapped up in a ball, and it's yet another splinter group of the online craze planking.

Yesterday photos emerged of people teapotting, or being photographed holding a teapot pose, in the style of the "I'm a little teapot" children's song.

"Balling" looks a lot like "taking a dump in the woods".

At least if someone is "balling" one the back of a moving vehicle they are in a good tuck 'n roll position to cause themselves less damage.

I have a different recollection of that term as well....

Though:
They'll do it on desks, they'll do it on chairs, they'll even do it in costume - anywhere, as long as it's safe.
certainly held true with the definition I knew for balling as well....
